Job Description

MEC is hiring a Senior Environmental Consultant in Brisbane, QLD, Australia. The role involves managing technical studies, preparing environmental assessments, and coordinating mine rehabilitation documents. Candidates should have 5-6 years of experience in environmental fields, preferably in mining, with knowledge of relevant legislation. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and in teams. Formal qualifications in environmental management or related disciplines are required.
MEC is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Consultant with experience in approvals to join our expanding Brisbane-based team. MEC Mining is a consultancy that provides integrated mining and geotechnical engineering, geology, and environmental services. Our clients range from private groups to ASX-listed companies throughout Australia & globally.

Role

As a suitably qualified and experienced environmental professional, you will be working as part of our environmental team. Reporting to the Manager of Environment and responsible for;

Responsibilities
• Scope and manage multiple technical studies;
• Prepare, compile and edit environmental technical studies, deliver Environmental Impact Assessments and other technical and advisory reports for clients;
• Coordinate and prepare mine rehabilitation and closure planning documents;
• Research and interpret legislative requirements and processes;
• Work within multidisciplinary teams to meet specified project goals;
• Administer contracts and scopes of work with other consultants and contractors; and
• Develop and maintain relationships with key project contacts

Qualifications & Experience Required

The Senior Consultant of Environment is expected to hold at least 5-6 years or more experience in an environmental field. Exposure to the mining industry is essential with exposure to the following industries, being of benefit: Mineral processing, mining infrastructure and oil/gas.
• Contemporary knowledge of Commonwealth, Queensland and Northern Territory environmental legislation and approvals processes;
• Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, showing attention to detail in everything you do;
• A high level of computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office package;
• Be honest, ethical and maintain loyalty and confidentiality;
• Efficient time management/organisational skills;
• Be able to cultivate and nurture positive relationships with clients, co-workers and contractors;
• Work autonomously, have a good sense of humour and also have the ability to work effectively within a team
• Proven record in self-managing projects previously
• Strong analytical ability and strategic capability to deliver for our projects as assigned
• Formal qualifications in environmental management, science or engineering disciplines are required.
