Job Description
Squadron Energy is seeking a Senior Energy Markets Analyst in Sydney, Australia, to optimize the performance of its natural gas and renewable energy portfolio. Responsibilities include analyzing financial performance, preparing models and reports, and collaborating on market trends. Candidates should have a degree in Engineering, Science, Economics, or Finance, with over 5 years of relevant experience in the Australian Energy or Oil and Gas industry.

The Role
Reporting to the Head of Gas Portfolio, the Senior Market Analyst will play a vital role in optimising the performance and value of Squadron Energy's natural gas and renewable energy portfolio. The role can be based in any of SQE'S East Coast Offices. Your primary responsibility will be to analyse and monitor the operational and financial performance of Squadron's natural gas portfolio including of the Port Kembla Energy Terminal, customer and supply positions as well as LNG market dynamics.
Further, you will assist with analysis and insights across the organisation's wider renewable energy portfolio including wind, solar and storage assets. By conducting comprehensive analyses and providing valuable insights, you will contribute to informed decision-making, risk mitigation, and the overall success of the organisation's energy portfolio.
This role will/may involve travel to other office locations and sites to engage and liaise with broader Squadron Energy (SQE) teams and relevant stakeholders.
Key responsibilities:
• Evaluate the financial performance of natural gas supply, transport and storage arrangements, and natural gas customer arrangements.
• Prepare financial models, forecasts, and reports for individual projects and the overall portfolio.
• Undertake customer load analysis and develop pricing structures in line with Pricing Methodology
• Support the development of the Pricing Methodology
• Assist in the development of new product offerings
• Contribute to the development and refinement of asset strategies and long-term plans for the portfolio.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess market trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to inform strategic decision-making.
• Use In House Market Model (IHMM) to update market forecasts.
• Manage preparation and presentation of technology review reports, e.g. long-duration energy storage paper.
• Support the completion of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports including financial and operational results for distribution throughout the business on time.
About you
You will have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Economics or Finance.
• 5+ years of experience within the Australian Energy or Oil and Gas industry or relevant industry consulting sector.
• Experience as an analyst and relevant tools and techniques
• Sound knowledge of energy industry, domestic gas market, and gas and renewable generation.
• Sound knowledge of LNG market pricing concepts.
• Knowledge of the Australian Electricity Market (NEM).
• Ability to create models to account for a variety of market and operational outcomes including gas powered generation and electricity market interactions.
• Knowledge of gas market systems.
• Knowledge of NEM systems.
• Knowledge of SCADA systems.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Sound Database skills, SQL, APIs.
• Python, or the ability to learn programming viewed favourably
