Your New Role...

CNN Weather is seeking an experienced, digital-first editor to lead and shape our features coverage, where science meets awe and explanation meets lived experience. This senior editor will be responsible for guiding our feature content across the natural world, space, Earth science, climate and travel. They will shape explanatory and experience-driven stories that connect audiences to the forces shaping the planet. The successful candidate thrives in building beautiful, durable journalism that creates curiosity and habit.

The ideal candidate has strong editorial judgment and editing skills, a deep appreciation for natural‑world storytelling and a sharp instinct for framing complex topics in ways that are accessible, visually dynamic and emotionally resonant. They understand how to make science feel human and relevant.

They will also work across the newsroom to take advantage of the expertise and experiences of CNN reporters and service journalists alike. They will ensure that our coverage reflects the full scope of our mission — pairing urgency with wonder, context with beauty, and expertise with delight. Finally, this person must embody the CNN Weather & Climate team’s ethos — we are looking for a self‑motivated, team‑oriented collaborator who takes pride in their craft, values diverse perspectives and elevates colleagues.

Your Role Accountabilities...
• Identify and execute a features plan around weather, travel, space, science and our lived experience in the natural world
• Develop and assign distinctive, visually rich story ideas that translate complex science into compelling digital experiences
• Work across formats beyond the traditional article, including short‑form, interactive, visual explainers, video scripts and social content
• Serve as a senior editorial voice for features coverage, operating independently when needed
• Work closely with meteorologists, climate reporters and science contributors to elevate their reporting into highly engaging, multi‑platform formats
• Collaborate with photo editors, video producers, illustrators and designers to ensure stories are visually ambitious and distinctive
• Ensure that travel and experience‑driven stories remain grounded in science and aligned with the team’s editorial mission
• Balance timely news pegs with durable, evergreen storytelling that builds audience habit and affinity
• Last but never least: Editors are often the final eyes on a story before it reaches millions of people worldwide. This editor will uphold CNN’s standards for accuracy, fairness and clarity, ensuring scientific precision and audience trust in every piece

Qualifications and Experience...
• Significant digital editorial experience in science, climate, weather, space or environmental journalism
• Demonstrated experience shaping explanatory or visually driven storytelling, particularly in a product or social format, like Snapchat Discover or Instagram or in news app products
• Experience working with and coaching on‑camera talent, helping experts translate complex ideas into compelling, personality‑driven video formats
• Strong editing skills with the ability to translate complex scientific material into accessible language without oversimplifying
• Excellent news judgment, including the ability to identify both timely and durable opportunities
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including visual and video partners
• Strong headline and framing instincts that spark curiosity while maintaining credibility
• Familiarity with Earth science, atmospheric science, climate systems or planetary science preferred
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision
• Exceptional communication and organizational skills
• A college degree or equivalent experience

Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $62,860.00 - $116,740.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short‑ and long‑term incentives, and program‑specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
