About The Opportunity
Amentum provides client-oriented solutions across our environment, energy, and defence businesses. With a strong order book and a diverse, exciting portfolio of projects across the UK and internationally, we need to expand our team of environmental specialists across multiple disciplines required to deliver a project lifecycle-from new build and operations through to decommissioning and site end use. We are seeking a client-facing Senior Ecologist with environmental impact assessment (EIA) experience. The successful candidate will work alongside geoscientists, waste managers, geochemists, and safety case consultants in high-hazard industries. We are keen to hear from you if you have a recent background in the development of Habitat Regulation Assessments and Digital EIA.
You will deliver work across Amentum’s environment, energy, and defence businesses, contributing to complex projects and supporting clients in high-hazard industrial settings.
This role can be based in Harwell, Rotherham, Cumbria or Birchwood.
Key Responsibilities
• Environmental Impact Assessments: Manage and deliver ecology inputs into EIA and Development Consent Order (DCO) projects, from planning and data collection through to final reporting.
• Field Work & Client Liaison: Lead site visits, ecological surveys, and coordinate with client project managers to ensure alignment on objectives and compliance with relevant standards.
• Project Documentation: Oversee the production of screening and scoping reports to support planning applications.
• Methodological Innovation: Build a reputation by pioneering innovative methods of impact assessment for terrestrial, marine, coastal, and ecological environments.
• Best Available Techniques: Contribute to the development of techniques that consider climate resilience, emissions, noise, biodiversity, water discharges, and heritage within environmental assessments.
Here's What You'll Need
Below are the qualifications and experience that we’re seeking in applicants. We understand that not everyone will meet every single requirement, so if you believe you have most of the relevant experience and strong potential to succeed in this role, we’d love to hear from you.
• EIA Leadership: Minimum five years’ experience supporting the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments for chemical, oil and gas, petrochemical, and waste management operations (or other high-hazard industries).
• Education: A degree in zoology, botany, marine sciences, geosciences, atmospheric chemistry, geology, ecology, or an equivalent field.
• Professional Qualifications: Chartered Ecologist, Environmentalist, Scientist, or equivalent professional accreditation.
• Additional Knowledge (not required): Familiarity with at least one of the following: air quality management, noise abatement policy/legislation, or dispersion modelling for terrestrial and/or marine environments.
• Communication & Problem-Solving: Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle challenges and effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Flexibility: Willingness to travel, including potential overseas site visits, in support of project requirements.
