About the position

The Senior Director of Environmental Justice at the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Environmental Justice Policy. This position involves collaboration across agencies to advance environmental justice initiatives, build relationships with stakeholders, and provide guidance on environmental justice issues. The Senior Director will oversee the development and execution of strategies that ensure equitable access to conservation and recreation resources for all residents of Massachusetts.

Responsibilities
• Support cross-agency implementation of EEA Environmental Justice Policy and DCR's Environmental Justice Strategy.

• Build relationships with elected officials, partner organizations, and stakeholders to advance environmental justice goals.
,
• Identify current environmental justice initiatives and advise senior staff on policies and programs.
,
• Advance environmental justice throughout the agency, aligning with EEA objectives.
,
• Engage with external stakeholders and maintain a comprehensive list of community partners.
,
• Track progress on DCR's Environmental Justice Strategy using data analysis tools.
,
• Manage DCR's Language Access Planning and program implementation.
,
• Guide training and internal engagement opportunities.
,
• Oversee the environmental justice webpage to ensure accurate information is provided.
,
• Provide guidance on the MEPA process and its impact on EJ populations.
,
• Manage staff including the Environmental Justice Internal Agency Coordinator.

Requirements
• Five (5) years of professional or managerial experience in relevant fields.

• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
,
• Experience in building relationships with elected officials and stakeholders.
,
• Strong problem-solving skills in complex environments.
,
• Cultural sensitivity and rapport with environmental justice populations.
,
• Experience with data visualization and analysis tools, including ArcGIS.
,
• Project management experience with attention to detail.
,
• Strong interpersonal skills and relationship maintenance abilities.
,
• Experience with database management, including Access and Excel.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience in environmental justice initiatives.

• Familiarity with legislative processes and policy advocacy.

• Knowledge of conservation and recreation resources in Massachusetts.
