Job Description

Strata Clean Energy is seeking a Senior Development Engineer in Scottsdale, AZ. Responsibilities include layout support, energy modeling, project optimization, and managing design layouts for solar and storage projects. The role involves collaboration with various teams, vendor management, and mentoring junior engineers. Candidates should have a related engineering degree and 5+ years of experience in utility-scale PV development. The position requires office work with occasional travel.
Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide layout, energy modeling, constructability, and due diligence support within the development department
• Coordinate with Strata EPC, O&M, and finance teams
• Perform techno-economic optimization studies / modeling to maximize project value
• Manage the production of detailed design basis layouts, constraint maps, and single line diagrams for Strata’s development pipeline of solar, hybrid, and stand-alone storage projects using in-house and third-party resources
• Manage relationships with various equipment vendors, contractors, and third-party engineering firms.
• Manage, mentor, and train junior Development Engineers as the development engineering team grows
• Draft, review, and defend technical aspects of common project contracts (EPC, O&M, offtake, and interconnection)
• Support the permitting process and interacting with AHJs and other local stakeholders
• Support financing / M&A due diligence activities including vetting buy-side M&A deals, facilitating technical aspects of sell-side M&A deals, populating datarooms, and working with financial parties (equity, debt, and tax-equity), and their Independent Engineers, to facilitate deal close
• Analyze solar resource data, BESS dispatch profiles, and power market forecasts
• Support continuous improvement activities

Education And/or Work Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in related engineering discipline, Civil Engineering preferred
• 5+ years related experience, working with utility-scale PV development and energy storage projects preferred
• Working knowledge of energy industry and project finance fundamentals
• Experience leading site walks and interpreting environmental and AHJ requirements to create constraints maps is preferred
• Strong project management skills & ability to work with limited supervision
• Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, attention to detail, and accountability
• Ability to multi-task and work in a deadline driven environment
• Interested in joining a dynamic, value-building environment and being part of a high-performing and collaborative team.
• Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Proficiency in using MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
• Proficiency with PVSyst or similar
• Proficiency with AutoCAD
• Pertinent coding experience (Python, R, MatLab, or VBA)

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

Work is performed in an office environment, with occasional travel required (up to 15%). Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist and lift up to 20 pounds.
