Overview Of Our Role

As the Senior Platform Engineer, you will be empowered to design, implement, and maintain Jemena’s data platform infrastructure; to support reliable, scalable, and efficient data processing across various business units. Your role will provide technical strategy and solutions to enhance our data engineering capabilities, ensuring high availability, performance, and security of our data environments.

Additionally, play a key role in managing platform integrations, optimising infrastructure as code (IaC), and develop reusable data engineering components and CI/CD pipelines. Be involved in ongoing support for critical platform services, including Databricks, Kafka, and TimescaleDB, and manage integrations with Confluent Kafka and SAP HANA. Furthermore, an opportunity to collaborate with product teams to review and guide code changes, ensuring alignment with best practices and Jemena’s architectural standards.

This role combines operational responsibilities with a focus on innovation, supporting Jemena’s digital strategy by enabling robust data engineering solutions to drive insight and decision-making capabilities across the organisation.

A Little About You
• Strong experience in designing, building, and managing scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms.
• Extensive hands-on expertise with Databricks, Terraform, and AWS cloud infrastructure, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and disaster recovery management.
• Proven ability to develop and manage CI/CD pipelines (GitLab) for infrastructure and application deployments.
• Hands-on experience with data integration tools like Confluent Kafka, SAP HANA, and TimescaleDB, along with Python and SQL for reusable libraries.
• Familiarity with data orchestration (Apache Airflow) and large-scale data ingestion patterns.
• Experience in agile environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams, with a strong focus on FinOps for cloud cost optimisation.

Qualifications / Certifications & Skills
• Strong understanding of cloud-based data engineering principles and modern data platform architectures.
• Expertise in Databricks, data integration (Confluent Kafka, SAP HANA), and real-time data processing.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS) and CI/CD best practices (GitLab) for automated deployments.
• Skilled in Python and SQL for data engineering, including reusable libraries and scalable ingestion patterns (Apache Airflow).
• Knowledge of data security, governance, and compliance in cloud environments, ensuring best practices within Jemena’s platform.
