Job Overview

The PlaceWorks team is seeking a skilled Climatologist to join our Planning Team as a full-time Project Manager. As a member of this dynamic team, you will contribute to the successful delivery of climate action projects across California. This role involves working closely with senior planners and other project team members to develop and implement comprehensive climate action plans.

About the Role
This position requires a strong background in climate change science, policy, and planning. The ideal candidate will have experience in preparing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories, vulnerability assessments, and climate action plans. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills are essential for success in this role. You will work collaboratively with local governments, community-based organizations, and private sector partners to deliver projects that meet client expectations and achieve impactful results. Your expertise will enable us to advance climate-resilient development practices and promote sustainable growth across the state of California.

Responsibilities
- Guide project teams through various stages of climate action plan development
- Collaborate with senior planners to prepare GHG emissions inventories and vulnerability assessments
- Work closely with clients to understand their needs and goals
- Prepare clear, concise reports, policies, and graphics for diverse audiences
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including local government officials, community leaders, and private sector partners
- Mentor junior staff members and contribute to the growth and development of the Planning Team

Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in urban or regional planning, environmental studies, geography, or related field
- Minimum 7-10 years of professional experience in climate action planning, climate adaptation/resiliency, or sustainability work
- Strong knowledge of climate change science, policy, and planning principles
- Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a virtual team
- Proficiency in ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office software
