The NYC Department of Buildings is seeking Senior Building Energy & Emissions Auditors to help implementation and enforcement of the City’s sustainability laws. These subject matter experts will be dedicated to the enforcement efforts of the suite of laws while supervising, training, evaluating, and ensuring quality assurance of energy and emission audit team. Selected candidates will work within the Bureau of Sustainability’s Office of Building Energy and Emissions Performance and report to the Deputy Director of Building Energy and Emissions Audits.
Senior Building Energy & Emissions Auditors are expected to work efficiently, effectively, creatively and under general direction to achieve large amounts of deliverables under aggressive deadlines while producing exceptional work product and outcomes.
Senior Building Energy & Emissions Auditors will be accountable for the following:
- Directing auditors in the examination and review of GHG emission reports, Energy Audits and Retro-commissioning reports, and supporting documentation for compliance with sustainability laws, for technical accuracy, consistency and compliance;
- Assigning work, monitoring team and individual auditor workload, and screening incoming jobs for completeness;
- Monitoring team and individual auditor productivity to ensure smooth continuous flow of work and compliance with Agency service levels;
- Working with staff to translate business needs into technical documentation that supports the Department’s business processes such as standard operating procedures, reference/user guides, fact sheets, bulletins, service notices, etc.;
- Researching complex technical issues, issuing interpretations, and responding to inquiries submitted by the industry with respect to the requirements for energy efficiency Reports, GHG emissions reports, and other technical reports;
- Preparing summaries and recommendations on the approval process of energy efficiency reports, GHG emissions reports, and other technical reports;
- Participating in the creation and delivery of training and educational documentation to internal staff as well as to the public with respect to energy efficiency, retro-commissioning, GHG emissions reporting, and the installation of sustainable building solutions to reduce GHG emissions;
- Assisting supervisors with management of unit operations, including developing and maintaining workload management plans, analyses, schedules, reports and spreadsheets, and performing assigned tasks as requested;
- Maintaining quality control of energy use, efficiency and emissions reporting reviews;
- Assisting with investigations and enforcement actions, including the issuance and resolution of violations and development of disciplinary cases;
- Training, mentoring and collaborating with assistant supervisors and auditors daily in order to increase their knowledge and qualifications to perform progressively more complex and challenging projects;
- Providing technical expertise in audit investigations and inspections of energy efficiency reports, and GHG emission reports, and other technical reports; and
