The Northern Land Council (NLC) are seeking 2 highly skilled Regional Coordinators – Anthropology to lead our teams of anthropologists in our regions. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects, provide expert anthropological advice, and support Traditional Owners in land and native title matters.

About The Role

As the Regional Coordinator – Anthropology, you will:

Lead and mentor a team of anthropologists, ensuring high-quality service delivery. Oversee applied research and provide expert advice on land tenure, social organisation, and cultural significance. Support Traditional Owners in consultations, land disputes, and major development projects. Work closely with government agencies, stakeholders, and Aboriginal communities. Ensure compliance with the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976, Native Title Act 1993, and other relevant legislation.

What you will bring

You are adaptable, proactive, and comfortable traveling to remote communities. You will bring a sharp analytical mind to undertake complex ethnographic research and provide high-level advice on land tenure issues, cultural significance, and decision-making processes in the context of ALRA and Native Title matters. You excel at cross-cultural communication and building relationships with stakeholders. You have solid writing abilities. Your experience in leading and mentoring teams will ensure that you can effectively manage, develop, and motivate each region’s anthropologists to achieve their goals while fostering a positive, supportive, and accountable work environment.

In Addition To This, You Will Have
• Bachelor (Honours) Degree in Anthropology or relevant discipline plus extensive experience in applied Anthropology in Aboriginal Australia.
• Minimum 5 years anthropological knowledge and understanding of systems of Aboriginal land tenure and social organisation, decision making processes and cultural protocols as they relate to the NLC’s legislative frameworks and statutory functions.
• Minimum one (1) year of leadership experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 and Native Title Act 1993 and experience in their application and the implications for the NLC’s Aboriginal constituents.
• Possession of a “C” class drivers licence and the ability to safely operate 4WD vehicles.

What’s In It For You
• A salary package Range of between $126,842 - $147,373 inclusive of our 14.5% superannuation this salary package is dependent on experience
• salary sacrificing up to $15,900 + Meal Entertainment and Holiday Accommodation benefits up to $2,650 per year.
• Other benefits under our Enterprise Agreement include:
• District allowance of up to $4,797 per annum for individuals with dependents and $2,630 without dependents.
• 5 weeks annual leave, leaving loading, 18 days personal leave;
• Paid Christmas close down;
• Upon completion of 12 months of service an Annual airfare with a net (in hand) value of $2,961
