Job Summary

We are actively searching for a Senior Agronomist Expert in Rwanda. This role requires a highly experienced professional with robust technical expertise in agronomy and proven team managerial skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agro-industrial supply chains, preferably within the energy or bio energy sectors, and a demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate field operations and agricultural staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, coordinate, and supervise agricultural production activities including sowing campaigns, post-harvest organization, and farmer aggregation systems.

• Provide technical leadership in oil crop cultivation for bio feedstock, particularly focusing on crops suited to degraded or non-food production areas.

• Oversee seed production and management, including maintaining seed quality standards.

• Ensure compliance with agricultural and environmental regulations, including standards related to renewable energy, biomass, and biofuels.

• Coordinate and manage field teams, ensuring efficient performance and adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols.

• Collaborate with stakeholders, including small- and large-scale farmers, government bodies, and environmental institutions.

• Contribute to the implementation of agricultural research trials and digital agricultural solutions (e.g., GIS mapping, tracking systems).

• Travel regularly for field missions within and outside Rwanda as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Master’s degree in Agricultural Sciences. Specializations in Tropical Agronomy, Environment, or Bio energy preferred. Other relevant qualifications may be considered based on experience.

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in farm management or agro-industrial supply chains, preferably in the energy or bio energy sectors.

• Demonstrated expertise in working with both smallholder and commercial farming systems.

• Solid knowledge of oil crop cultivation, seed production, and seed quality control.

• Familiarity with sustainability standards, agricultural regulations, and environmental/social certification frameworks.

• Experience with agricultural digital tools (e.g., GIS, Google Earth) is a strong asset.

• Prior work experience in Rwanda and/or the bio energy sector is highly advantageous.

• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Kinyarwanda and/or French is an added advantage.

• Proven ability to lead and mentor teams.

• Strong commitment to HSE standards in agricultural operations.

• Based in Kigali, with frequent travel required to field locations .
