Position Overview:
We are accepting applications for an entry-level Scientist I position in our Chicago, St Louis, Milwaukee, or Brodhead offices. The role requires knowledge of local and regional flora and fauna, ecology, and environmental science disciplines such as biology, hydrology, soils, wetlands, water quality, geology, and familiarity with mitigation project regulations. Responsibilities include fieldwork, data entry, and technical report writing to support ecological consulting and project delivery across various ecosystem restoration projects.

A Typical Day:
• Performing or assisting with wetland delineations, stream assessments, mitigation monitoring, feasibility studies, habitat surveys, and vegetation assessments.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collect, analyze, and interpret field data per industry standards.
• Contribute to fieldwork, data entry, analysis, and reporting.
• Prepare ecological studies, reports, restoration plans, and resource assessments.
• Understand environmental regulations and permitting processes (e.g., CWA Sections 404/401, endangered species laws).
• Assist in business development activities, including proposal preparation.
• Develop relationships with clients, agencies, and conservation groups.
• Coordinate with team members and participate in problem-solving and process improvements.
• Maintain accurate records and adhere to company procedures.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in ecology or related field (wetland science, botany, wildlife biology) and 1-2 years of experience preferred.
• Experience with GPS, ArcGIS, and data collection software.
• Proficiency in data entry, Excel, and scientific writing.
• Knowledge of restoration ecology principles and practices.

Illinois Pay Range: $50,700—$59,550 USD.
