SCC – Wildlife Technician Individual Placement Member

The SCC Wildlife Technician Individual Placement Member at AmeriCorps involves hands-on conservation work in Colorado. The Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) Individual Placement (IP) Program connects young adults with hands-on opportunities to support public lands and community needs through AmeriCorps service. IP members serve alongside land management agencies and nonprofit partners across Colorado, gaining practical experience in natural resource and wildlife management. Individual Placements assist with a range of projects related to wildlife habitat, vegetation, and ecosystem monitoring. Duties include collecting field data; conducting wildlife and vegetation surveys; identifying plant and animal species; monitoring sensitive species and nesting activity; and maintaining accurate field records and databases. Members also contribute to mapping, reporting, and summarizing field findings that inform land and habitat management decisions. These roles provide young adults with valuable field skills and exposure to land management practices that support healthy habitats. IPs serve closely with agency staff and mentors, gaining insight into conservation careers and public land stewardship.





















Member Duties : AmeriCorps member will support the Wildlife Program at the Bureau of Land Management Royal Gorge Field Office during the field season by assisting with wildlife research, monitoring, and inventory projects on public lands. The member will conduct field surveys of wildlife and vegetation, identify and classify species, and collect and record ecological data in treatment and control sites. Responsibilities include assisting with bird and sensitive species surveys, locating and monitoring nests, documenting observations, and maintaining databases of species locations and activity. The member will gain experience in study design, field data collection, data management, analysis, and communicating findings that inform species and habitat management decisions.
