Black & Veatch is hiring a SCADA Engineer for renewable energy projects in Atlanta, GA. The role involves designing SCADA systems, including hardware and software configurations, quality assurance, and providing remote support. Responsibilities include creating engineering documents, teaching SCADA concepts, and developing network architecture. Candidates should have a degree in engineering or computer science and at least 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in substation and renewable energy.
Job Summary
Black & Veatch is seeking a SCADA engineering professional to assist in the technical design of substation and renewable energy Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. The work includes conceptual and detailed design of SCADA hardware, networking equipment, fiber networks, datalinks, points list, RTU configurations, remote I/O module configurations, Meter configurations, PMU/PDC device configurations, and Human Interface (HMI) screens. Responsibilities also include quality assurance checking, man hour estimates, specifying equipment part numbers, proposal specification writing, standards development, factory acceptance testing, cyber security auditing, and commissioning support at sites or remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Work directly with the project team to generate engineering design documents and deliverables (drawings, points list, configuration files, etc.) for systems and components related to the substation and renewable energy SCADA systems.
Provide oversight and lead lower-level engineering work or assignments.
Teach other engineers fundamental SCADA concepts.
Use effective verbal communication to convey, teach, and/or sell ideas.
Write clearly and concisely.
Coordinate SCADA project work for timely execution.
Prioritize important tasks.
Provide clients recommended solutions based on standards, best practices, and industry standards.
Develop control system network architecture diagrams, datalink points list, control narratives, control logic diagrams, protection and control drawings, and procurement specifications for SCADA equipment.
Read one-line diagrams, three-line AC schematics, and DC schematics.
Configure devices’ Ethernet communication settings in IPv4 addressing with end devices, Ethernet switches, and router (default gateway).
Configure devices’ serial communication settings in Ethernet RS-232 or RS-485.
Develop HMI screens.
Configure RTU development.
Understand protective relays, substation and renewable energy automation systems configuration files.
Configure devices for synchrophasor data work: PMU devices, PDC devices, and DFRs.
Provide remote support to the field construction team for troubleshooting and fixing issues.
Preferred Qualifications
Substation and renewable energy (wind, solar, battery energy storage) experience.
Experience with IEC 61850, Modbus, OPC UA, and other control system protocols over TCP/IP or serial.
Experience with VMware, Factor Talk, Ignition, AVEVA HMI software, Cloud View, Subnet Solutions, Factory Studio, Cimplicity or other virtual/HMI software platforms.
Experience with protective relays, substation and renewable energy automation systems.
Experience with SEL RTAC and IED architecture design and configuration.
Experience with Allen Bradley Control Logic PLC configuration.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science from a recognized accredited program in the applicant’s home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (background checks, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
