The role involves developing training courses, evaluating trainee performance, and maintaining training programs. Candidates should have at least 5 years of industry experience, preferably in renewable energy, and be willing to travel up to 50-80% of the time. Strong communication skills are essential.

The Training Specialist is responsible for conducting safety and technical training courses to operations and construction field staff. Delivery of training occurs in a variety of settings with other instructors and groups. The Instructor evaluates trainee performance, in the classroom, on-the-job and in the simulator when applicable. The instructor will also be responsible for performing qualification evaluations on operational field technicians to determine technical proficiency of trainees. Additional responsibilities include updating and maintaining training and qualification program, support of the day-to-day activities within the operations and construction departments, and assist with evaluating the training and qualification programs of contractor and vendor companies that partner with National Grid Renewables.
Essential Responsibilities
• Conduct training in the classroom, virtually, and/or in the field setting
• Develop new training courses and assist in improving existing ones
• Perform qualification evaluations on operations technicians in the field
• Assist with expanding the technician qualification structure to include evolving technologies and tasks
• Assist with evaluating the training and qualification programs of contractor and vendor companies
Required
• Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, sometimes as much as 80% (weekend travel is very rare)
• Preferably at least 5 years of Industry field experience, preferably in renewable generation
• Candidates should possess familiarity with renewable energy plants. To include:
-Wind Plant Operations & Construction
-Solar Plant Operations & Construction
-Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Operations & Construction
-Balance of Plant (BOP) Operations & Construction
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience on multiple of the listed fields.
• Technical expertise in another discipline, such as electrical and mechanical maintenance; health physics and or safety procedures is beneficial.
• Candidates must have demonstrated an ability to interface well with people, communicate effectively, and express ideas clearly, concisely, and accurately both orally and in writing. Also, must be able to effectively communicate to an individual on how and why they do not pass an evaluation.
• Candidates must be able to effectively present training material to various class sizes with varied entry-level knowledge. Organizational and administrative skills are required to the extent needed to produce, maintain, and deliver safety and technical training.
• Applicants must be self-motivated, and able to work independently and in teams with minimal supervision.
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, is required.
