Job Description
Global Terminal is seeking a Safety, Security & Environmental Advisor in Vancouver, BC. The role involves promoting a safety culture, managing incident reporting and investigations, conducting hazard assessments, coordinating inspections, and ensuring compliance with safety and security policies. Responsibilities also include data analysis and contractor management. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills in a fast-paced maritime environment.
GCT is the operator of the largest container terminal in the country and one of the largest employers in the maritime sector. We have an opportunity for a Safety, Security, & Environment Advisor within our Safety, Security & Environment Department at GCT Vanterm and GCT Deltaport.
Key Responsibilities
Through visible felt leadership the Safety, Security and Environmental (SSE) Advisor supports, coaches and promotes a culture of safety throughout our operation.
General Duties
• Incident Reporting and Investigation:
• Aid and support the accident/incident reporting process; including gathering documentation, pictures and statements, leading root cause analysis (RCA) investigations, identifying and assigning corrective actions.
• Reporting findings to both internal and external stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
• Recommend corrective actions related to hazardous conditions to the appropriate sources.
• Utilizing Intelex to facilitate RCAs and assign and monitor corrective actions.
• Completion and submission of HOIR s to ESDC.
• Hazard Assessment
• Facilitate and coordinate the GCT Hazard Prevention Program (HPP).
• Perform job hazard analysis (JHAs) in Intelex with participation of management / union sub-committees.
• Assign and track corrective actions to address identified hazards.
• Inspections and monitoring
• Coordinate and conduct health and safety inspections of site and vessels.
• Monitor and correct safe working practices on an ongoing basis to ensure a high standard of excellence.
• Data analysis:
• Provide and maintain statistical data, reports and analysis of accident/incident trends to other departments in support of accident reduction goals and continuous improvement of workplace health & safety.
• Respond to inquiries and requests for information in an appropriate manner.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and data integrity at all times.
• Proficiency in MS Excel is a definite asset in analyzing data.
• Compliance:
• Facilitate the implementation and administration of Safety, Security and Environmental policies, processes and systems and monitor compliance with all relevant legislation, rules and regulations.
• Security Management:
• Coordinate security activities and access control with GCT Canada security officers.
• Administer access control computer systems.
• Utilize CCTV security cameras to maintain site security and for incident investigations.
• Liaise with law enforcement, port authority and regulators on security matters.
• Contractor Management
• Coordinate and monitor compliance of the GCT Contractor Management Program.
• Utilize ISNetworld to ensure users are meeting GCT requirements.
• Investigate complaints and reports of non-compliance by contractors to the CMP.
• Training and Facilitation:
• Coordinate and track training related to health, safety and security related topics with target audiences that include staff, longshoremen, foremen and external contractors.
• Participate in the health & safety committee activities, ensuring regular meetings and inspections are taking place, follow up action is being taken, and preparing monthly “minutes” for site-wide distribution.
• Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and development; maintain knowledge of current health & safety strategies, trends and technologies by developing industry working relationships and participating in exchange groups, associations and committees.

• Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education & Experience
You bring the following skills and experience:
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
• Working knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations; i.e., Canada Labour Code Part II, Marine Transportation Security Regulations and WSBC. Experience in a federally regulated workplace is an asset.
• Intermediate to expert knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Consistent demonstration of a high level of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism.
• Previous experience in the Container Shipping Industry and Terminal operations is considered a strong asset.
• Experience working in a high-stress, heavily unionized environment is a definite asset.
• GCT Canada utilizes many systems to help facilitate its safety and security programs. Fluency in any of these programs is considered a definite asset:

• Lenel
• Genetec Security Center
• Cribmaster
• Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license (own vehicle required).
You also bring advanced interpersonal skills, as well as your flexibility to multi-task. You are able to work in a self-directed manner, and are also able to work effectively with a team or work group. You have advanced verbal and written communication skills, strong organization skills and a proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment. You will need the determination to succeed, and the direction to know what is right in an environment with many strong opinions and beliefs.
These capabilities have typically been developed through a relevant post-secondary diploma or degree in a discipline related to health & safety, 3-5 years of experience in a safety and security role, or a combination of education, training and experience in a related discipline.
This role is a multi-faceted; there will be plenty of variety and opportunities to work with many, if not all departments, in the company at some point. The focus is heavily-weighted toward health & safety, with security and environment taking up a minority of your focus.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Marine Transportation Security Clearance (TSC), Marine Facility Security Officer Designation and Access Control Officer Designation.

• The salary range is: $90,984 - $106,440
