Job Description

The Safety Coordinator at IU Health in Indianapolis, IN, is responsible for inspecting facilities to mitigate safety risks and ensure regulatory compliance. This full-time position requires a Bachelor's degree in Health Science or related fields, with preferred certifications. The role involves collaboration with various groups, maintaining hazardous materials, and developing staff training programs. Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with some travel required.
Overview

Details: This position will work Monday through Friday. No weekends or holidays! The standard working hours are 8:00am until 4:30pm but does offer flexibility with adjusting the day shift hours if needed.

The Safety Coordinator will inspect facilities and work areas to prescribe corrective actions to reduce safety and Environment of Care risks. The Safety Coordinator will work with multi-disciplinary groups to affect change and ensure regulatory readiness. This position will be responsible for locations on the Academic Health Center license, to include Marion County & surrounding counties. Some travel required.

Provides a safe, functional and effective environment for occupants. Maintains Hazardous Materials and Waste, Emergency Management, and Safety functions for Environment of Care (EOC). Protects the facilities by investigating, reducing, and controlling environmental hazards and risks. Develops and implements an information collection and evaluation system (ICES). Coordinates and ensures regulatory compliance issues for all areas of responsibility are met. Develops and directs staff education program and training activities related to areas of responsibility. Acts as an informational and enforcement resource for applicable regulations and standards

• Bachelor's degree in Health Science, Industrial Hygiene, and Safety Management preferred.
• Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) and/or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certifications strongly preferred.
• Requires knowledge of Joint Commission, FEMA, IDEM, EPA, OSHA and ISDH rules and regulations and knowledge of federal, state and local requirements.
• Requires knowledge of hazardous material management requirements.
• Requires knowledge of emergency management/preparedness requirements.
• Requires ability to identify and evaluate workplace hazards.
• Requires ability to integrate new information into practice.
• Requires ability to develop educational programs.
• Requires accurate use of computers and working knowledge of various software programs.
