Job Description

WRA, Inc. is hiring a Restoration Technician (Project Based) in San Francisco, CA, focusing on ecological restoration and habitat protection. This seasonal, part-time role involves fieldwork tasks like vegetation management and invasive species control. Candidates should have experience in ecological restoration, strong communication skills, and a valid driver’s license. The position requires physical stamina and may involve occasional weekend work. Bilingual skills in Spanish are preferred but not mandatory.
WRA Landscape Restoration (WRA-LR) is a licensed contracting business specializing in ecological restoration and wildland vegetation management, and sustainable landscaping. Our Landscape Restoration team is based out of the North Bay and provides services throughout the entire San Francisco Bay Area.

We are seeking a skilled Restoration Technician to join our team as an on-call, project-based hire. This role focuses on performing essential tasks to restore and protect critical habitats, enhance biodiversity, and mitigate environmental threats. The ideal candidate will have a passion for ecological restoration, hands-on experience in fieldwork, and a commitment to contributing to the success of environmental conservation projects. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills enabling effective collaboration with the team.

This position is a seasonal part-time role for project-based work. WRA LR may not always have projects for you to work on, either due to project availability or specialization required. Additionally, you are under no obligation to accept the work we offer you.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform various habitat restoration tasks including vegetation management, habitat restoration, native plant installation, and irrigation design and installation
• Create and maintain shaded fuel breaks to reduce fire risks
• Map invasive species populations and conduct control efforts to protect native ecosystems
• Implement streambank stabilization measures and bioengineered erosion control installations
• Apply herbicide under direction to treat non-native invasive plants
• Monitor and document progress through photo point monitoring and reporting
• Complete mandatory training related to safety and the proper use of equipment including chainsaws and backpack sprayers
• Be available for occasional work on weekends or overnight stays with advance notice

Minimum Qualifications:
• English language fluency is required for effective communication in this role. Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is preferred but not required
• A high school diploma or equivalent
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have maintained a satisfactory driving record (as determined by our insurance provider) for the past three years. This position requires operating company vehicles and transporting others
• Experience in ecological restoration, fuel reduction, and invasive species control
• Plant identification skills including California native plants and wildland weeds
• Punctual and dependable
• Ability to work effectively with individuals of different backgrounds, knowledge, and skill levels

Desirable qualifications
• Experience using and maintaining mechanical equipment (i.e. chainsaws, brush cutter, power hedge trimmer, and auger drills)
• Experience using and maintaining hand tools (i.e. Pulaski, McLeod, hand pick, and other necessary equipment)
• Chainsaw safety certificate
• Wildland Firefighter Type II-IGPS/GIS mapping
• GPS/GIS mapping
• QAC or QAL Certification
• Irrigation Technician Certification
• Experience towing trailers
• First Aid or Wilderness First Aid Training

Daily Physical Requirements:
• High level of stamina and physical fitness
• Able to navigate steep slopes on foot, often while carrying loads
• Must safely lift and transport heavy loads of 45 - 50 lbs. for an extended period
• Able to bend frequently or work on knees for an extended period
• Able to reliably commute to WRA LR’s San Rafael offices
• Able to travel for work and work away from home for extended periods
• Tolerance to poison oak, pollens, thorny brush, insects, and inclement weather

Compensation: $22-26 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
