Job Description

The successful candidate will manage the completion of the Resilient Street Ends study, funded by a NYS Local Waterfront Revitalization Program grant. This study is exploring strategies and concepts to transform NYC’s underutilized waterfront street ends into more resilient, accessible, and functional spaces. The candidate will manage the project’s budget and schedule, perform grant administration tasks, oversee the technical consultant, and engage internal and external stakeholders to ensure project goals and deliverables align with community needs and DOT standards. As the study approaches completion, the candidate will coordinate the publication and dissemination of the guidelines, as well as develop strategies for implementing resilient street ends as future pilot projects.

Under the oversight of the Assistant Director of Resiliency Planning & Management, the candidate shall also support broader efforts within the Resiliency team, including coordinating citywide coastal resiliency capital projects, managing inspections and rehabilitation projects within the Citywide Waterfront Inspection Program, and participating in planning and policy development. The candidate will conduct research and analysis on climate change adaptation and resilience, provide policy recommendations, and ensure that long-term resilience strategies are reflected in both capital and grant-funded projects. The role requires working closely with other divisions within DOT and other City agency partners, which means preparing timely communications to colleagues and DOT leadership, “translating” climate science and other information across technical disciplines, as well as integrating community and political considerations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in urban planning, climate resilience, and project management, with technical expertise in design, GIS, and data analysis, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills.
