Job Description
Arup is seeking a Resilience and Climate Adaptation Consultant for its Milan office to support sustainable development projects. The role involves climate vulnerability assessments, technical support for adaptation strategies, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Candidates should have a degree in relevant fields, knowledge of climate science, and fluency in Italian and English. We are looking for a** **Resilience and Climate Adaptation Consultant **to join our Sustainable Development Team within Arup Milan Office.
You will work within a growing team with diverse backgrounds in architecture, engineering, urban planning, climate science and risk analytics, social sciences and economics, in the vanguard of sustainable development and transformational change across a varied and impactful portfolio of master-planning, buildings, infrastructure, city and regional strategies, and advisory projects.
You will support our growing portfolio of projects, focusing on the major agenda of resilience and adaptation to climate change with views to embed climate resilient outcomes into the projects we deliver. The consultant will contribute to:
• Your role*:
- Development of climate vulnerability and risk assessments for city, masterplanning, buildings, infrastructure, and advisory projects
- Technical support for reporting on physical risks and adaptation for a wide range of projects (e.g. national/regional level studies, development consent projects, ESG and due diligence disclosures), in line with best practice and regulations such as TCFD, EU Taxonomy
- Support external partners and clients to develop adaptation and resilience plans and strategies
- Support design workstream in portfolios such as Transport Property, Energy Water and Resources and multidisciplinary design teams to embed resilience and climate adaptation in design
- Support global research on resilience and adaptation
• *Required:
- Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning with focus on environment and climate; or Environmental science
- Knowledge of climate science and interpretation of model outputs for resilience and adaptation purposes
- Knowledge in design, construction and/or research on adaptation for the built environment
- Working knowledge of Global, European and Italian, policy and regulatory frameworks for climate change - including UNFCCC agenda and SDGs
- Excellent research and analysis skills
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams in multicultural environment
- Fluent in both Italian and English
As a plus:
- First-hand proven experience embedding adaptation into city planning, masterplanning, infrastructure and/or building design
- Should be Chartered or working towards Chartership with an appropriate institution
- Quantitative analytical skills will be an asset and knowledge of scripting e.g., Python and GIS experience
- Experience of undertaking climate change impact and risk assessments
- Knowledge of other languages, such as French and Spanish
