Job Description

The University of Arizona is seeking a Research Specialist in Greenhouse Gas Dynamics to manage field and lab experiments measuring greenhouse gas emissions. Responsibilities include coordinating project activities, conducting measurements, analyzing data, and collaborating with stakeholders. The candidate should have experience in greenhouse gas monitoring, lab instruments, and statistical analysis. This is a full-time position based in Maricopa, AZ, and not remote.
• Planning, initiating, coordinating, and managing field or greenhouse experiments and lab incubations to measure greenhouse gas emissions:
• The candidate is expected to follow protocols designed by the team to conduct field measurements and is expected to participate in discussions when planning for specific field activities were done. The candidate is also expected to use their knowledge and skill set to make decisions in the field/lab/greenhouse to help progress the project activities. The candidate is also expected to coordinate project activities, challenges, concerns, and protocols with their supervisor. The candidate must have the ability to operate and maintain a GHG measuring device such as Gasmet or LiCor system.
• Participate in publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at relevant conferences, prepare extension reports and articles for educational purposes:
• The candidate is expected to provide inputs and prepare data representation tables and figures for research-based publications. The candidate is also expected to run basic statistical analyses using MS Excel, SAS, R or similar software. These activities will be done under the supervision of Dr. Sanyal and will be reviewed by Dr. Sanyal.
• Establish, secure, and maintain active communication with the stakeholders and industry, participating/contributing/organizing/leading research-based extension meetings:
• The candidate is expected to communicate with the project stakeholders and collaborators regarding the progress of the research and future activities.
• The candidate is expected to collaborate with technicians, undergraduate and graduate students working in the soil health lab, and in the field trials; handle equipment and tools as required for research and demonstration of technologies under the supervision of the PI.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Demonstrated experience in monitoring and measuring greenhouse gas emissions
• Experience in maintaining field experiments, sample (soil, plant tissue) collection, processing, and analyses
• Experience in running general lab instruments used in a typical agronomic lab
• Experience with statistical analyses using software like R, SAS, or Python
• Experience in handling and organizing large, complex datasets
