About the position

The University of Washington is seeking a full-time Research Scientist specializing in water and climate resilience. This early-career position will support various projects within the Climate Impacts Group (CIG), collaborating with senior researchers and partners to develop resources that enhance resilience to climate change. The role emphasizes applied research, synthesis, and analysis, requiring strong communication skills and a commitment to diversity and inclusion in environmental science.

Responsibilities
• Conduct applied research on water and climate resilience topics with guidance from senior staff.

• Evaluate, select, and apply research methodologies to support CIG objectives.

• Synthesize literature on climate resilience and water management.
,
• Develop resources for state agencies regarding climate impacts and adaptation strategies.
,
• Perform statistical and geospatial analysis of climate-related data.
,
• Identify and evaluate benefits and tradeoffs of adaptation strategies.
,
• Create science communication products for diverse audiences.
,
• Understand stakeholder needs to support climate adaptation activities.
,
• Lead specific tasks within larger projects, ensuring quality and timeliness.

• Assist in procuring additional funding through proposal preparation and presentations.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in applied social or natural sciences, engineering, planning, or a related field.

• 2 years of relevant experience in water resources management or equivalent education/experience.

• Demonstrated ability to synthesize qualitative data from various sources.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.
,
• Experience with quantitative and spatial data analysis using software like Python, R, QGIS, or ArcGIS.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

Nice-to-haves
• Master's degree in a related field.
