Job Description

NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY seeks a Research Engineer II for the SusTex Centre, focusing on sustainable textile innovation. Responsibilities include supporting research and administrative tasks, managing events, conducting literature reviews, and fostering stakeholder relationships. The role requires a Bachelor's or Master's in Communications, Business Administration, or Environmental Science, with experience in administrative support and event coordination. The position is located in Singapore and is not remote.
SusTex, an RGE-NTU Joint Research Centre on Sustainable Textile, is dedicated to advancing innovative solutions that promote sustainability and material circularity within the textile industry. By bridging cutting-edge research in green chemistry, artificial intelligence, and materials science, SusTex aims to develop scalable and impactful strategies for sustainable textile recycling, aligned with the principles of circular economy and outcome-driven innovation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting both administrative operations and research activities and promoting the research centre's initiatives in sustainable textile innovation. This role involves managing day-to-day administrative tasks, organizing events, and assisting with project coordination to ensure smooth operations. Additionally, the candidate will actively contribute to research efforts by conducting literature reviews, compiling research data, and assisting with experimental work related to aspects of circular textile recycling. The candidate will also support the documentation and dissemination of research findings, preparing reports, grant proposals, and scientific communications in collaboration with the research team.

A key aspect of the role is fostering connections with stakeholders, industry partners, and the wider community to raise awareness about sustainable practices in textiles. The candidate will lead efforts to enhance the centre’s visibility by crafting engaging content for digital and traditional platforms, managing social media presence, and coordinating publicity campaigns.

Job Responsibilities:
• Assist in ongoing research activities, such as data collection, sample preparation, or preliminary analysis related to sustainable textile processes.
• Conduct literature reviews and market research on sustainable textile trends, regulatory policies, and emerging innovations.
• Manage administrative tasks, including scheduling and coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, documenting minutes, and maintaining organized records.
• Organize and coordinate events, including workshops, public outreach activities, and stakeholder meetings, to promote the centre's achievements and collaborations.
• Create and disseminate engaging content for digital platforms, such as social media, newsletters, and the centre’s website, to highlight key initiatives and successes.
• Foster relationships with stakeholders, including media, industry partners, policymakers, and collaborators, to support the centre’s mission and activities.
• Collaborate with team members and researchers to simplify and present complex ideas in accessible formats for diverse audiences.
• Prepare documentation and reports related to events, stakeholder engagements, and administrative activities.
• Stay informed about sustainability trends and emerging communication tools to strengthen the centre’s outreach efforts.

Key Requirements:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or a related field, with a strong focus in sustainability and public engagement.
• Proven experience in administrative support and event coordination, including planning logistics, preparing agendas, documenting meetings, and managing stakeholder communications.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain detailed records, and ensure the smooth execution of events and projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience creating and disseminating content across various platforms, such as social media, newsletters, and websites.
• Proficiency in digital tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and basic content management systems (e.g., WordPress). Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is an advantage.
• Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including media, industry partners, policymakers, and collaborators, to promote organizational initiatives.
• Knowledge of sustainability concepts and an understanding of circular economy principles, especially in textiles, is a strong asset.
• Ability to analyze and report on the effectiveness of outreach efforts, including audience engagement metrics, with an eye for continuous improvement.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
• Passion for sustainability and a commitment to advancing awareness and innovative practices in environmental stewardship.
