Job Description
The Kirby Institute at UNSW is seeking a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Immunology/Infectious Diseases for a full-time role based in Kensington, NSW, Australia. The position involves supporting the Infection Analytics Program by developing a Framework for Evidence Evaluation in Vaccine Assessment. Candidates should have relevant academic qualifications and experience in immunology and vaccine development. The role includes supervising evidence reviews and collaborating with other research entities.

Why Your Role Matters
A Research Associate (level A) or Senior Research Associate (Level B) will support the Infection Analytics Program in the development of a Framework for Evidence Evaluation in Vaccine Assessment (FEEVA). The FEEVA project is an interdisciplinary venture combining expertise in immunology and evidence assessment.
The role involves supervising and conducting evidence reviews on vaccine development, producing reports and publications. The candidate will collaborate with the Australian Living Evidence Collaboration (ALEC) at Monash University, applying their lab experience to assess and synthesize immunology evidence for vaccine approval. This position is ideal for an experienced immunologist seeking to transition beyond the wet lab into evidence assessment in immunology, an emerging research field.
The role will report into the Professor/Program Head. At Level A the role has no direct reports and at Level B the role has one direct report.
Skills And Experience
At Level A:
• A university degree in related discipline including biology, immunology, infectious disease or related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.
• Substantial expertise/ relevant work experience in Immunology, Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and/or Vaccine development and proven track record working on innovative projects.
• Proven ability and desire for continuous growth and professional development.
• Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments with a deep interest in scientific literature and grounding in the scientific method.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct and assess independent research with limited supervision.
• Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders whilst building effective relationships.
• Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to solve problems by taking initiative, using discretion and demonstrating attention to detail.
• Advanced computer literacy, including the ability to learn and adopt new software packages as required. Demonstrated high-level proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) essential.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
At Level B (in Addition To The Above)
• A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
• A proven track record of significant involvement with the profession and/ or industry particularly through relevant research contributions, including publications.
• Proven ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships with a successful track record of effectively leading projects and managing stakeholders to drive timely research outcomes.
• Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
