Job Description
Imperial College London is seeking a Research Associate in Sustainable Technologies to conduct research on urban sustainability solutions. The role involves project management, coordinating research activities, and ensuring adherence to health and safety standards. Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant field and experience in research and publication. The position is based at the South Kensington campus with some international travel, primarily to China.

About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to undertake groundbreaking research on sustainability related technology for urban environments within a multidisciplinary team. Exploring synergistic interaction across multiple actors and stakeholders to deliver clean energy solutions at city scale, and beyond, providing a pathway to sustainable, responsible and renewable consumption practices. Working with the Co-Directors, the Research Associate will be responsible for the delivery of key technological developments and research, leading project teams and undertaking day-to-day project management and research activities, including ensuring relevant attention to health and safety and ethics, and delivery of the Centre’s translational plans. The Research Associate will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the Centre’s activities are coordinated and managed in an effective and productive way, aligning these with the overall strategy and objectives of the Centre.
What you would be doing:
• You will undertake research and project management to meet the aims and objectives of the Centre.
• You will plan research, undertake and coordinate research relevant to sustainable technologies and its implementation in urban environments.
• You will monitor the research plan and translational activity delivery, including coordinating updates from others for the delivery of high-quality research and translational outcomes.
• You will be responsible for day-to-day project management of specific Centre research activities and leading teamwork, including ensuring adherence to relevant health and safety and ethics requirements.
• You will lead and contribute to writing reports for submission to research sponsors, presenting findings to colleagues and at conferences and submitting publications to refereed journals.
• You will provide guidance to other staff and students, attend relevant workshops and conferences as necessary (with some overseas travel, principally China), promote the reputation of the Group, the School and the University and provide guidance to PhD Students.
• In collaboration, you will contribute to the smooth running of the Group's laboratories and facilities.
What we are looking for:
Key to this role are:
• A PhD in Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
• Practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals
• Practical experience in a broad range of techniques, including engineering design, data analysis, mathematical modelling and others
• Practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals
• Knowledge of design engineering, mechanical, chemical and/or electrical engineering
• Knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures
