Job Description
UNSW is seeking a Research Associate in Carbon Nanomaterials for Biofuel Cells, based in Kensington, Sydney, Australia. The role involves conducting independent and team research, focusing on biofuel cells, writing scientific papers, and engaging with industry. Candidates should have a PhD in relevant fields and a strong research background. The position is full-time, fixed-term for 12 months, with a salary range of $110,059 to $117,718 plus superannuation.

The Opportunity
The School of Chemical Engineering at UNSW has an opportunity for a Research Associate. In this role, you will conduct research in nanomaterials both independently and as part of a team. The position focuses on a project aimed at designing and implementing biofuel cells based on carbon nanomaterials.
This position will provide you with the opportunity to develop your scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally. You will contribute to writing scientific papers and reports for international journals, participate in conferences and workshops, supervise HDR students, and actively engage with industry partners.
This role reports to Associate Professor Sophia Gu and has no direct reports.
• Salary, Level A - $110,059 to $117,718 per annum + 17% superannuation
• Full time
• Fixed-term contract – 12 months with possibility to extend
• Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

Skills & Experience
• PhD in macromolecular science, material science and engineering, chemical engineering, or nanotechnology-related area.
• Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentation in the relevant field.
• Demonstrated previous research experience in synthesis, characterisation and applications of carbon nanomaterials.
• Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
• Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
