Job Summary:
We are looking for a Research Assistant to join our seaweed laboratory in Tuticorin. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in microbiology and seaweed research, with the ability to support both laboratory and field activities. Freshers and interns are welcome to apply if they meet the requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Seaweed Culture and Management:
Identify and culture seaweed in laboratory and land-based tanks.
Manage seaweed seeds in laboratories and ocean farms.
Microbial Research:
Prepare microbial culture media and conduct screening and isolation of marine bacteria.
Stock and maintain pure microbial cultures.
Seawater Analysis:
Perform physico-chemical parameter analysis of seawater samples.
Assist field personnel in collecting seawater and seaweed seed materials regularly from the ocean farm.
Laboratory Operations:
Operate and maintain lab equipment such as microscopes and spectrophotometers.
Prepare and maintain lab notebooks (both digital and paper formats).
Field Assistance:
Collect and analyze field data from ocean farms.
Lab Administration:
Ensure accurate record-keeping and adherence to laboratory protocols.
Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in Plant Biotechnology, Marine Biology, or Fishery Science.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in relevant fields.
Skills:
Proficiency in handling lab equipment such as microscopes and spectrophotometers.
Knowledge of microbial culture techniques and seawater analysis.
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
