The University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking a Research Assistant for a temporary position focused on the feasibility of distributing local seafood to underserved communities. Overview:
UMass Amherst, the Commonwealth's flagship campus, is seeking a Research Assistant to support a single or multi-disciplinary research project focused on delineating the feasibility of distributing local seafood to underserved communities. This is a temporary, non-benefited position that offers the opportunity to work on a collaborative project that highlights sustainable fisheries practices and supports the seafood industry in Massachusetts. Responsibilities:
• Assist with data collection, literature review, data entry, and information compilation on the state's fisheries, local commercial fishing, and seafood industry
• Assist the project team in researching sustainable fisheries practices from seafood-dependent communities
• Document data collection findings
• Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences
• *Qualifications:**
• Demonstrated eagerness to research methods, and ability to work well on a team and independently in challenging physical conditions and sometimes stressful scenarios
• Strong ability to be adaptable, communicative, cooperative, and detail oriented
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to acquire knowledge of research methods and use them appropriately
• Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and work effectively in both independent and team-based environments
• Excellent time management skills
