Renewable High Voltage Project Engineer
Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to work as a Renewable High Voltage Project Engineer in the Power Delivery Renewable Business Unit. This position reports to our Salt Lake City, Utah based Department Manager located in POWER’s Cottonwood Heights, Utah office. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment with the ability to work from any mutually acceptable location (employee will need to live within driving distance of a currently established POWER office).
Responsibilities:
• Assist Project Managers in bid evaluation and project planning.
• Lead design team from conceptual phase through completion and act as an Engineer-of-Record for large complex substation and gen-tie projects.
• Participate in preparing technical proposal including scope, schedule, and budget.
• Act as a technical liaison with clients, contractors, and vendors.
• Provide engineering support during construction including field inspections and witness tests.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.
• Grow and manage relationships with alliance clients.
• Mentor less experienced staff in substation project execution.
• Lead technical specifications development for large EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, including development of project scope, schedule, and estimates.
• Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations including one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.
• Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner.
• Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients across multiple offices.
• Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects.
Required Education/
Experience:
• BSEE (BS in Electrical Engineering), BSEET (BS in Electrical Engineering Technology), or BSREE (BS in Renewable Energy Engineering) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.
• Professional Engineering license (PE), or eligible to obtain PE.
• Experience in 15kV through 500kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Experience in managing 3-5 people on a project team.
• Experience filling the role of project engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.
• The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Education/
Experience:
• Seven (7) or more years of experience in substation design is preferred.
Base Salary Range: $95,000-$125,000 per year
