Job Description
National Grid is hiring a Regulatory Policy Manager in Warwick, UK, to lead a team in monitoring energy regulations and developing strategies for interconnection projects. The role involves engaging with regulatory bodies and internal experts while ensuring alignment with European network operations. Candidates should have regulatory experience in the energy sector, strong communication skills, and critical thinking abilities. The position offers hybrid working options, competitive salary, and benefits.
About the role
National Grid Interconnectors is at the forefront of delivering low carbon electricity between Great Britain and Europe. With a portfolio of 7.8GW of interconnection capacity, we provide infrastructure to move power to where it is most needed, providing security of supply and access to affordable power for the countries that we connect.
This is a critical time for the energy sector, as government policies and regulatory arrangements are being shaped to advance the transition to a clean and affordable power system. These developments will set the frameworks for how future interconnector projects are delivered and the cross-border market arrangements for how existing interconnectors operate.
We are currently recruiting for a Regulatory Policy Manager within National Grid Interconnectors.
As a Regulatory Policy Manager you will lead a team of 2-3 Regulatory Analysts and be responsible for monitoring the energy landscape, managing NGV’s policy positions and how we respond to proposed changes.
This role is based from Warwick and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home.
Key Accountabilities
• Perform horizon scanning to ensure our business is up-to-date on governmental and regulatory initiatives.
• Develop a regulatory strategy for how the UK should determine the future requirement for interconnection.
• Be responsible for coordinating responses to consultations from Ofgem, DESNZ and NESO on behalf of NGV Interconnectors.
• Ensure that any proposed changes are compatible with the approach to network development and operations in Europe.
• Engage closely with internal and external subject matter experts and senior leaders
• Take an active role in the management of the UK Policy and Regulation team and the wider Commercial, Customer and Regulation Directorate.
About you
• Regulatory/policy experience in the energy sector is preferable.
• You must be a critical thinker with the ability to process complex information, identify the key considerations and develop a strategy around them.
• Excellent written and verbal communication is also expected, as you will often present your proposals to a senior audience.
• Good attention to detail is required given the financial and reputational value of the work involved.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £64,000 - £76,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
