Manitoba Wildlife is seeking qualified applicants to fill two positions: one position in Brandon (Western Region) and one position in Beausejour (Eastern Region).

The Natural Resource Stewardship Division protects and manages fish and wildlife for the benefit of all Manitobans. We develop policies and legislation that support the conservation of species and ecosystems. We offer a variety of programs to protect, conserve, enhance and manage the over 35,000 species of wild plants and animals that call Manitoba home. These programs are expertly delivered by our biologists, planners, technicians, support staff and partners to conserve these precious resources for future generations.

Conditions of Employment:
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba class 5I/5F driver's licence (or equivalent) without restrictions.
• Must be able to travel to and work in remote locations for extended periods within the province, travelling by various means such as chartered aircraft, boat, ATV, and snowmobile.
• Must be able to work outside regular office hours, as required.
• Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may require moderate physical effort conducting field work (e.g. carry equipment and samples for long distances potentially over rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions).

Qualifications:
Essential:
• A diploma or degree in biological sciences, natural resource management, or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
• Experience developing and managing wildlife programs.
• Experience collecting, managing, and summarising data from remote and rural field environments.
• Effective interpersonal skills with experience developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with diverse groups including government and non-government agencies, Indigenous groups, resource users, Agricultural producers, industry, and the public.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently with strong organizational and time management skills.
• Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Effective written communication skills with the ability to prepare technical reports.
• Ability to collect biological samples from wildlife.
• Technical knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) including experience working with GIS applications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) or equivalent software applications.

Desired:
• Experience operating various small engine and electric equipment, trucks, boats, ATVs, and snowmobiles, and experience backing up and hauling trailers/boats.
• Ability to navigate in remote and rural areas using handheld GPS devices, aerial imagery, and digital or paper maps.
• Experience in interpreting and applying legislation and policy related to natural resources and wildlife management.
• Experience in data analysis and data management, including the use of statistical software (R, SAS).

Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Regional Wildlife Manager, the employee will plan, coordinate, organize and supervise regional wildlife research and management programs in the region. The incumbent will also assist in the development and delivery of all other wildlife programming including commercial wildlife allocation, wildlife habitat assessment, wildlife disease, population monitoring, season setting and non-game.
