About the position

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world's leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self-motivated Civil - Professional Engineer to be located in the Iowa Field Office in Huxley, Iowa. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design, and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects. Primary responsibilities will be in Iowa, with occasional work in Illinois and Missouri. Regional Engineers perform a full range of project planning, design, contracting, and construction management functions on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects. Project delivery responsibilities include scoping and proposal development, engineering design, project bidding, field inspection, and occasional construction management. A close working relationship with local, state, and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will include occasional travel. Specific duties include preparing proposal scope of work and budgets in close coordination with biological staff, interpreting, selecting, adapting, and applying engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program, completing engineering designs and reports as required, preparing project plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates, attending project meetings, performing topographic surveys, conducting field inspection, and performing construction management oversight as needed. The engineer will ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules, act as contracting officer, ensure contract compliance, and manage project budgets. Additionally, the engineer will assist with occasional field work as required, which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions, and must be able to operate an ATV and outboard boat when necessary.

Requirements
• B.S. in Civil Engineering or equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program.

• Registered professional engineer with a minimum of 4 years of experience in civil engineering design.

• Ability to obtain registration in assigned state(s).
,
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
,
• Experience with surveying, Civil3D, hydrology, hydraulics, civil design including structures and pump stations, erosion control, construction inspection, and project management.
,
• Self-motivated and goal-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience with Civil3D software.

• Knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics principles.
