Job Description

American Conservation Experience is hiring two Red Wolf Field Crew Members for the Red Wolf Recovery Program in Eastern North Carolina. Responsibilities include caring for captive and wild canids, monitoring their health, conducting observations, and maintaining enclosures. The role offers professional development opportunities and requires teamwork. The position is temporary, starting October 14, 2024, and ending April 11, 2025, with fieldwork conducted in various counties.
About the position

American Conservation Experience (ACE), a non-profit conservation corps, is seeking two Red Wolf Field Crew Members to assist with various projects under the Red Wolf Recovery Program in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). This position is crucial for the conservation and survival of the Red Wolf, a species that has faced significant threats and is currently listed as endangered. The selected members will engage in meaningful fieldwork that contributes directly to the recovery efforts of this unique canid species. The role involves a variety of tasks, including the care and feeding of both captive and temporarily held wild canids, monitoring their health, and conducting observations of their movement patterns. Members will also assist in the handling and processing of these animals, which includes taking vital signs and administering vaccinations. This position is designed not only to support the Red Wolf Recovery Program but also to provide professional development opportunities for the members. They will gain exposure to land management agencies and network with professionals in the conservation field. The work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, with the possibility of flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, depending on project needs. The position is based in Manteo, North Carolina, with fieldwork conducted across five counties in the Eastern North Carolina Red Wolf Population area. This role is a temporary position, with a start date of October 14, 2024, and an estimated end date of April 11, 2025.
