Job Description
Dundee City Council is hiring a Recycling Centre Assistant for their Baldovie or Riverside sites. The role involves working 37 hours per week, including weekends, ensuring recycling centres are clean and assisting the public. Candidates should have customer service experience, manual handling skills, and knowledge of recycling and health and safety issues. The position requires physical capability and the ability to work irregular hours.
Job DescriptionBased at Baldovie or Riverside Household Waste Recycling Centres, you will work on average 37 hours per week any 5 days out of 7 including weekend working on an annualised basis, which varies from April to September (9am to 5.15pm Monday to Friday: 8.25 hours; 9am to 5.30pm: 8.5 hours), and October to March (9am to 4.15pm Monday to Friday: 7.5 hours; 9am to 4.30pm: 7.5 hours).

You will provide assistance and direction to the general public and other site users and to ensure that materials are properly segregated into the appropriate categories and areas for re-use and recycling.The IndividualYou will have experience of customer service provision, manual handling skills, lifting of goods, containers, etc, and knowledge of recycling requirements or environmental issues. An awareness of Health and Safety issues related to recycling centres is also essential, along with the ability to maintain a high level of site tidiness and to control site traffic.
You will also have good communication skills, be willing to help and deal politely and courteously with members of the public and have the ability to use own initiative and ability to work unsupervised.
Furthermore, the ability to regularly pull, push and carry heavy bulky items, equipment and to walk varying distances on-site, including up/down gradients and steps is essential as is the ability to work irregular hours and weekends, and a willingness to undergo training are also essential.
