Job Description
United Utilities is seeking a Rainwater Management Technical Lead for a permanent, full-time position based in Warrington, UK. The role involves providing design and technical support for rainwater management solutions, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and Nature Based Solutions (NBS). Job Purpose
To support the Senior Technical Lead in providing Rainwater Management design, technical and specialist drainage related activities at United Utilities.
To support the Senior Technical Lead in driving Rainwater Management solutions into our ways of working, leveraging multiple benefits for the North West and delivering best value for operations and our customers.
To assist the Senior Technical Lead when representing UU on design & technical related activity for a defined programme including capital projects, operational support and strategic studies.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
• Provide design and technical support for Rainwater Management Solutions, including all Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and Nature Based Solutions (NBS)
• Components can include, but are not limited to; Swales, Rills, Soakaways, Bio-retention systems, Green Roofs, Raingardens, Tree Pits, Ponds and Wetlands, Basins, Infiltration Trenches, Filter Drains, Permeable Paving, Rainwater Harvesting, Reed Beds and Surface Water Separation.
• Through design, maximise the wider environmental benefits green blue solutions can bring including social and economic benefits supporting a Natural Capital approach.
• Champion new innovative design ideas when developing efficient and affordable rainwater management solutions.
• Support the rainwater management Senior Technical Leads to investigate, design and recommend solutions to the business that improve or resolve the management of surface water.
• Explore additional ways for managing rainwater across the system e.g. Rainwater Harvesting to reduce water consumption, Reed Beds to help water quality and Surface water separation to reduce flooding/spills.
• Develop high impact communications to internal and external stakeholders where appropriate.
• May lead a small portfolio of low complexity projects with support from the Senior Technical Leads.
• Support with identification of risks associated with rainwater management proposed changes and escalate issues that may affect project delivery.
• Provide administrative support and design proficiency.
• Assist with the development and management of project documentation.
• Assist in reporting of progress against the individual project deliverables to the appropriate governance group(s).
Technical Skills & Experience
• Experience in delivering projects and providing design/technical support.
• Significant passion to deliver Rainwater Management and green/blue solutions.
• The role holder will possess knowledge of Rainwater Management interventions, including Sustainable drainage expertise (SuDS) & Nature Based Solutions (NBS), but also an understanding of Drainage, Flood Risk and the Water Industry in general.
• Understanding of the multi-disciplinary roles and activities required to deliver Rainwater Management in the Water industry, including but not limited too; Landscape architecture, Earth Sciences including Geotechnical and Physical Geography, Hydrology, Ecology, Modelling, Civils, Hydraulics, Environmental Planning, Drainage, Flood Risk, Natural Flood Management (NFM) & Water Quality.
• Proven communication skills (both verbal and written) with the ability to influence and persuade decisions at a project level internally and also externally with partners such as local authorities and regulators.
• Highly numerate and able to demonstrate best value and wider environmental benefits for Rainwater Management projects.

Qualifications
• Degree or equivalent qualification in an environmental or relevant technical discipline.
