Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2026
Caerlaverock Nature Reserve: Enhancing Wildlife and Visitor Experience
We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team at Caerlaverock, a stunning nature reserve on the north Solway coast. The successful candidate will contribute to raising the profile of this unique wildlife-rich area, welcoming more visitors, and improving their experience.
The Wilder, Wetter Caerlaverock project, funded by NatureScot, aims to restore wetland habitats across the reserve through innovative techniques such as water level management. This initiative seeks to create suitable conditions for rare species like natterjack toads, restore former farmland to wetland habitats, and assess potential saltmarsh restoration. Concurrently, infrastructure development, including fencing, water troughs, and cattle handling pens, will facilitate effective wildlife management in the future.
To succeed in this role, you will require a proven track record of working on large-scale landscape habitat restoration projects and practical habitat management work. This position is ideal for an organized and innovative individual with a passion for enhancing landscapes for wildlife. You will have previous experience in delivering high-quality habitat management projects, accompanied by associated monitoring work, and excellent people skills to collaborate with colleagues and volunteers within WWT, as well as secure and maintain key relationships with neighbours, graziers, and contractors.
If you thrive in a small team environment amidst stunning, wildlife-rich surroundings, we invite you to apply for this opportunity.
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a conservation charity dedicated to protecting wetlands for wildlife and people. We conserve, restore, and create wetlands, pioneering the saving of wetland wildlife both in the UK and globally. Our 10 UK sites attract over a million visitors annually, engaging with wetland nature. Internationally, we work in key wetland areas, balancing conservation with sustainable livelihoods, and influencing national and international conservation policies.
In return for your dedication, you will enjoy a range of benefits, including:
• 33 days annual leave, increasing to 38 days after 5 years' service
• Contributory pension scheme matching up to 7%
• Life assurance providing 3 times annual salary
• Access to resources supporting your health and wellbeing, including our 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
• Enhanced family friendly policies
• Cycle to work scheme
• Free entry to all our centres
