Job Description
ABO Energy is seeking a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager for Renewable Energy Development in Toronto, Ontario. The role involves creating schedules and budgets, identifying suitable project sites, negotiating land leases, and developing permitting strategies. Candidates should have at least three years of experience in renewable energy project planning, with knowledge of Canadian legislation and experience working with Indigenous communities being advantageous. ABO Energy, formerly known as ABO Wind, is a globally successful renewable energy developer that was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany. Out of its office locations in 16 countries worldwide, the company has developed and sold wind, solar, storage, and biogas projects with a capacity of nearly 6,000 megawatts. Your passion
• Create and update schedules, budgets, and spend forecasts.
• Identify sites with good renewable resources, access to electrical grid, landowner support, and high constructability to develop competitive projects.
• Responsible for land lease negotiation and liaison with landowners, agents, and solicitors.
• Develop and execute a permitting and engineering strategy for renewable energy projects including managing external consultants.
• Consultation with local First Nations communities, government councils, grid operators and regulatory bodies.
• Liaison with local communities, consultees, and other stakeholders.
• Answering internal and external inquiries related to planning and technical project issues.
• Review and assessment of technical documents from internal subject matter experts and external consultants.
• Close cooperation with technical staff in Canada and Germany.
Your qualification
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working in planning/development of Renewable Energy Projects. Experience in other power industries is helpful
• Experience green fielding and permitting wind, solar and battery projects in Canada is considered an asset
• Enthusiastic about the future of renewable energy and dedicated to pursuing a career in sustainable energy
• An academic degree preferably with a discipline in sustainability, engineering, or environmental science
• Strong knowledge of provincial and Canadian legislation regarding renewable energy development, specifically relating to the IESO, OEB, Hydro One, NRCan, Clean Energy Regulation, Ministry of the Environment Conservation and Parks (MECP), and municipal land use planning and regulations
• Experience working with First Nations and Indigenous communities considered an asset
• Ability to accurately record, review and prepare technical documentation
• Excellent English language skills
• Proven ability to perform interdisciplinary work
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Strong entrepreneurial and negotiation skills, especially when dealing with landowners and consultants
• Willing to travel on an as-needed basis, including travel to other ABO offices and Germany
