Job Description

The University of Arizona is seeking a Project Manager for Energy Conservation to oversee contractors and engineers on energy infrastructure projects in Tucson, AZ. Responsibilities include coordinating project activities, ensuring adherence to standards, monitoring project progress, troubleshooting issues, and managing project execution within budgets. The role requires knowledge of HVAC systems, preventive maintenance, and project management skills.
• Oversee contractors, engineers, and two direct reports during the installation phases of energy infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate project activities with appropriate University Facility Services (UFS) staff to ensure alignment with departmental goals.
• Ensure all project participants and internal teams adhere to established standards, protocols, and procedures.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for project-related communication across departments and with external partners.
• Review and monitor progress on active projects and the ongoing maintenance of systems, including steam traps.
• Identify and recommend improvements or modifications to enhance project outcomes and system performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve foreseeable issues that may impact project timelines or operations.
• Review engineering and design plans for projects, ensuring alignment with University Facility Services (UFS) standards and coordinating with relevant UFS staff and trades.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for critical equipment and systems.
• Lead the development, installation, testing, calibration, and operation of complex and high-impact systems and techniques.
• Provide direction and follow-up with team members to address technical and operational issues.
• Prepare project scopes and overviews for future initiatives, coordinating efforts with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and other UFS departments.
• Manage project execution within assigned budgets and established timelines.
• Facilitate planning meetings to coordinate project duration, stakeholder involvement, and event scheduling.
• Partner with Work Control (Facilities dispatch) to communicate planned service interruptions to affected building occupants.
• Oversee the maintenance and operation of all closed loop systems, including:
• Testing for chemical residue and adjusting chemical levels as needed.
• Maintaining pot feeders and performing blow downs.
• Scheduling and executing maintenance of steam traps across all systems.
• Serve as a backup resource to support team members in the maintenance of heating-based closed loop systems, which recirculate water without connecting to the central plants.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Working knowledge of HVAC systems.
• Working knowledge of controls systems.
• Working knowledge of boilers and chiller operations.
• Background in preventive maintenance programs.
• Knowledge of Project Management.
