Project Consultant – Sustainability & Resilience

Thornton Tomasetti is hiring a Project Consultant in Sustainability & Resilience in New York, NY. Our Sustainability & Resilience practice collaborates with clients and project partners to integrate successful green solutions into the planning, design, construction, and operation of buildings, reducing their environmental impact at every stage of their life cycle. We use whole system thinking and leading-edge analytical tools to develop innovative solutions that balance economic, social, and environmental factors. Our experienced team offers sustainable design strategies, energy analysis, green building certification consulting, sustainability analysis, and upgrades for existing structures, along with education and training.

The Role

We are seeking a Designer/Planner within our Sustainability and Resilience Practice. Our practice is an interdisciplinary group of engineers, architects, planners, and landscape architects that consult on a wide range of projects both locally in the New York metro area and nationally. This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals with a background in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or Planning to contribute to resilience projects at scales including single building design, campus master plans, and urban planning projects. Types of services include development of resilience action plans, climate hazard assessments, resilient infrastructure design, and guiding performance-based design within interdisciplinary design-build teams.

Responsibilities
• Support the creation of resilience strategies for urban environment through preparation of project presentations, reports, schematic design, and design specification.
• Develop communication materials around natural hazard risk, adaptation and mitigation strategies.
• Support hazard modeling and adaptation measure evaluation.
• Utilize GIS to analyze and visualize natural hazards and build environment data.
• Create 3D models to illustrate design concepts and project proposals.

Requirements
• Background in Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Planning or a related field.
• Effective communication skills including graphic, verbal, and written.
• Familiarity with basic data analysis tools such as Python, R, Power BI, or Tableau is desirable.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling or GIS software (e.g. Rhino, Revit, ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Familiarity with resilience design practices and natural hazard risk analysis (e.g. Flooding, Hurricane, Tornado) is a plus.
• Submission of resume, cover letter, and portfolio or work samples for our team to review is strongly encouraged.

Compensation

The rate for this position generally is $73,500 – $84,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
