Job Description
The Centre for Science and Environment in New Delhi seeks a Programme Officer for its Biodiversity and Food Programme. The role involves policy research, advocacy, and communication on biodiversity issues. Candidates should have strong research and writing skills, with at least 5 years of relevant experience. The position requires interaction with various stakeholders and may involve travel within and outside India. A master's degree in related fields is preferred.
Location: New Delhi
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi. CSE researches into, lobbies for, and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable.
The Biodiversity and Food Unit of CSE is looking for candidates to research crucial aspects under domain areas. These include policy research and advocacy on key issues of biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, and access and benefit sharing. Research on links between biodiversity and food is one key aspect of the units work.
Job Profile
The candidate is expected to support policy research, advocacy, communication and capacity building around the programme. The job will entail research and writing for policy papers; communicating through articles in CSEs magazine Down To Earth; and interacting with stakeholders such as policy makers, regulators, media, industry, civil society organizations, and communities in rural areas. The candidate should be open to travel within and outside India.
The candidate should have strong research and analytical skills along with a flair for writing both technical reports and articles. Willingness to crunch numbers and unpackage complex science, developing issues and concepts promptly is a must. The candidate should be hard working, self-motivated and disciplined.
Qualification And Experience
The candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant work experience. Experience in the non-profit sector is not a prerequisite. Candidates with masters in environmental science / sustainable development / conservation biology / ecological sciences / international law / nutrition / food systems / indigenous foods / agriculture; and related subjects may apply.
Candidates with lesser experience will be considered for the position of Sr. Research Associate / Research Associate.
CSE pays a competitive salary that will be commensurate with qualification and experience.
