Description
Alta Planning + Design seeks a TDM Program Specialist Level I-II for our Los Angeles office. If you are looking to join an innovative organization and do work that connects people to places while advancing social justice, safety, and environmental resilience, apply with Alta today!
About Alta
Alta Planning + Design is a sustainable transportation company dedicated to creating active, healthy communities through planning, landscape architecture, engineering, and education/encouragement programs. Alta was founded in 1996 when communities were calling for safer streets for people walking and bicycling as the non-motorized transportation movement developed into a profession in the United States. We pioneered the field of active transportation, evolving our planning and design work into a visionary global practice that empowers people to live active, healthy lives and gets them to where they need to go.
Our core values and work bring about positive change by creating places that are geared toward moving people rather than cars, connecting community members to daily needs and human experience, and empowering every person to live an active healthy life. As a global leader in mobility innovation for over 26 years with over 230 staff, we are dedicated to connecting people to places by working across disciplines and scale to address social justice, safety, and environmental resilience.
Day to Day
While no two days in this role are exactly alike, here are common work activities that will make up your week:
• Applying transportation demand management (TDM), business, and organizational development principles to help shape and implement successful projects, programs, and initiatives supporting multiple Transportation Management Associations (TMAs) across the Los Angeles region.
• Shaping and implementing programs focused on shifting travel behaviors within diverse communities. Many programs are commute-focused and directed at employers and employees, while some are directed to residents and the community.
• Directing and participating in employer-facing outreach, sales, and partnerships, with the support and collaboration of other team members and local partners
• Leading, planning, and staffing outreach efforts such as community events, transportation fairs, employee benefits fairs, lunch and learns, and other in-person engagement tactics.
• Supporting data collection tasks required to inform program measurement and evaluation, potentially including surveying and focus groups, with a strong data-led approach to decision-making.
• Establishing and nurturing long-term relationships with clients, including understanding needs, expectations, and challenges and ensuring they feel valued, understood, and supported.
• Developing transportation mode-specific campaigns, such as Bike to Work Day, travel behavior incentive programs, and Try Transit events.
• Program and campaign monitoring and administration, specifically keeping all stakeholder facing information up to date like campaign challenges and leaderboards.
• Guiding clients with your expertise in local TDM ordinances and regional air quality standards, including South Coast AQMD rules and metrics, to ensure program compliance and contribute to regional sustainability and emissions reduction goals.
• Actively engaging in continuous learning and integrating this knowledge into projects, including an understanding of emerging tools and techniques in the marketing field as they apply to our work. This may involve trainings, workshops, regional conferences, and self-guided learning.
• Assisting project managers with project management work, including grant writing and reporting, data analysis, project reports, invoicing, and budgeting.
• Apply knowledge of sustainable transportation and behavior change principles to develop and implement strategies that reduce single-occupancy vehicle use and support mode shift goals aligned with local and regional TDM objectives.
