Job Description

The Network for Certification and Conservation of Forests is hiring a Program Officer for its Carbon Registry department. This role involves managing the Carbon Registry mechanism, including GHG project submissions, carbon credit trading, and methodology approvals. Candidates should have a relevant postgraduate degree and 2-3 years of experience with GHG standards. Key skills include knowledge of climate change mitigation, strong communication abilities, and project management skills.
The Network for Certification and Conservation of Forests, is a registered society of experts, professionals, and stakeholders of natural resources, engaged in the development of India-specific and globally benchmarked sustainability standards, as its core working area, apart from working for policy advocacy, training and capacity building through multi-stakeholder engagement. It is a member of the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) Alliance from India, a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Global Evergreening Alliance (GEA) and has got an Observer Status with the UNCCD as a Civil Society Organization (CSO). While NCCF’s application for accreditation with UNFCCC as a CSO is under consideration by UNFCCC, it has been given a “provisional admittance” for participation in COP 27 at Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt in November 2022. NCCF has developed a Carbon Registry-India (CR-I) to provide a platform for carbon tracking and trading for verified net Green House Gases emissions reductions and removals enhancement with Sustainable Development Contributions.

Reports to: Director General and Standard Chairperson

Purpose of Job:

This position is a part of the Carbon Registry department, with the individual being responsible for managing the Carbon Registry (CR-I) mechanism. CR-I shall be a viable, scalable platform for facilitating:

i. submission, registration, and verification/certification of GHG mitigation projects

ii. issuance, trading, and tracking of the resulting carbon credits, and

iii. submission, approval, and listing of project-based methodologies

Essential Qualifications

A recognised university degree (PG) in the domain of either climate change, sustainability, and the environment.

Experience

A minimum of two to three years experience in handling GHG projects pertaining to recognised GHG standards/programs such as ISO 14064: part 2, CDM, VCS, and GS in project development or Validation and Verification.

Desired Skills

The ideal candidate shall have the following competencies:
• Conversant with the concept of climate change mitigation including familiarity with its key strategies, technologies, and measures.
• Possesses a deep understanding of the overall functioning of key GHG programs mentioned above, including regulatory framework.
• Understanding of key international climate change agreements like Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, etc., including awareness of relevant provisions within them for the development of market-based GHG mitigation mechanisms.
• Insight into India’s NDCs, and CCTS
• Understanding of CORSIA and ICROA.
• Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint
• Very strong communication skills written, oral and presentation including demonstrated networking abilities
• Superior presentation skills are necessary.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and work with colleagues
• Capable of exercising independent judgment and flexibility
• Excellent organizational, research and project management skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in new ideas

Key Responsibilities/Roles

The key responsibilities of the individual shall include:
• Managing GHG programme Carbon Registry-India Standard, functioning of the Registry
• Building and growing a network of professional business contacts - clients, consultant companies and individual experts to identify potential partnerships.
• Oversight of all aspects of project management including project planning, monitoring, reporting, writing, research and documentation. He/she shall be responsible for the overall quality of delivery.
• Identification, organization, and planning of meetings with relevant stakeholders based on needs of the programme.
• Any adhoc task assigned by Director General, or Chairperson.
