Job Description
MidAmerican Energy Company is seeking a Safety Performance Program Manager in Adel, IA. This role involves leading the implementation of the Safety Improvement Plan, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and reporting progress to leadership. Responsibilities include analyzing safety performance, supporting local safety plans, and maintaining training programs. Candidates should have a relevant degree or equivalent experience, along with significant experience in safety compliance and leadership.
Job Description
The safety performance manager facilitates the creation of MidAmerican’s annual Safety Improvement Plan. Leads the implementation and is responsible for the success of the Safety Improvement Plan initiatives utilizing the plan, execute, measure and correct model. Ensures the initiatives are in compliance with state and federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration regulations. Reports progress on the overall Safety Improvement Plan and each initiative at least monthly to executive leadership, union leadership, safety committees and others as needed. Supports business unit and local Safety Improvement Plans as directed.
Responsibilities
Leads the implementation of MidAmerican’s Safety Improvement Plan initiatives and is responsible for their overall success and reporting of progress (50%)
Supports development and implementation of business unit specific or local Safety Improvement Plans as directed (10%)
Analyze safety performance statistics, including charts and graphs that depict safety trends and activities, conduct gap analyses, and integrate correct actions into Safety Improvement Plan Initiatives. (10%)
Leads the development of MidAmerican’s annual Safety Improvement Plan including individual initiatives, KPIs and improvement targets (10%)
Assists in maintaining and profiling company safety training plans (15%)
Performs other duties as assigned (5%)
Communications / Contacts
Internal -Potentially all employee and management levels.
External - Local, state and federal regulators; industry associations; other Berkshire Hathaway Energy platforms.

Demonstration of advanced technical knowledge, and an advanced understanding of safety and the company's business processes.
Perform responsibilities as directed within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy.

Maintain the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary to effectively complete responsibilities; enhance job knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for professional development and training.
Maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company information.
Attend work on a regular basis and support the company's employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules.
Leadership as demonstrated through setting and achieving goals and objectives, communication and support of organization and department goals and objectives, encouragement of teamwork within safety and high personal integrity.
Provide accurate input into the budget process and contributes to meeting the actual targets.
Ensure all compliance aspects of the position are known and followed; understand and comply with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and the organization.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental, business or related field or the equivalent progressive related work experience. (At least six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Five years’ experience in electric, gas, generation operations and/or safety compliance, including one year in supervisory/leadership role.
Technical expertise related to the safety requirements of construction, operation and maintenance of electrical and natural gas distribution systems, customer service functions and generation systems.
Highly developed oral and written communication and presentation skills to listen effectively, communicate information and team directions accurately and understandably and to actively seek feedback and input.
Well-developed critical thinking, analytical and decision-making skills to optimize resources and achieve consistent, high quality results.
Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and PowerBI programs.
Strong interpersonal skills to negotiate and persuade, to sell, lead opinion and to effectively drive and manage change.
Well-developed project management skills, ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
Advanced knowledge of local, state, federal and company operating requirements and regulations.
