Job Description

The Urban Land Institute seeks a Program Manager for its Randall Lewis Center for Sustainability in Real Estate in Washington, DC. The role involves leading member engagement, managing leadership programs, organizing events, and supporting evaluation activities. Candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience, strong communication skills, and project management abilities. The position is grant-funded and initially lasts until September 2026, with potential for extension.
POSITION SUMMARY:

The ULI Randall Lewis Center for Sustainability in Real Estate is seeking a committed Program Manager to advance Center goals by helping shepherd key member engagement, leadership development programs, and impact evaluation activities. This position will report to the Lewis Center’s Director for Healthy Places.

This position is funded by external grants. It will initially be an engagement lasting through September 2026, with the potential for an extension or a renewal.

The ULI Randall Lewis Center for Sustainability in Real Estate leads the real estate industry in creating places and buildings where people and the environment thrive. In collaboration with ULI members and partners, the center drives industry transformation, cultivates leaders and champions, and helps foster solutions for sustainable, resilient, healthy, and equitable cities and communities. The center pursues these goals via cutting-edge research, convenings, community technical assistance, leadership networks, and other strategies. The center’s core programs are decarbonization, healthy places, and urban resilience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
• Leadership programs (40%). The position will provide program and logistical support to the ULI Health Leaders Network and other similar programs. Specifically, the Program Manager will lead the promotion process and oversee specific aspects of the overall program. Additionally, the Manager will assist the Director with the vetting and selection process of each cohort, curriculum content creation and coordination, outreach and communication, meetings and forums execution, event and program coordination and facilitation, and other related tasks.
• Program/Event management and member engagement (50%). The position will play a key role in organizing high profile events and convenings which promote member engagement, learning and action. The Manager will be responsible for programming and events, such as webinars, Spring and Fall Meeting, convenings etc., with tasks including speaker vetting and selection, communications and outreach, meeting management, and other tasks.
• Evaluation (10%). The position will participate in the Lewis Center’s evaluation programming, and support efforts to track and maintain key performance metrics which help the Center tell the story of our work and impact.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least five years of related professional experience.    
• A strategic thinker, a strong writer, a problem solver, a program manager, a team player, and an excellent communicator. 
• Excellent professional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Comfort engaging with ULI members and partners of all levels.
• Ability to project manage the planning and execution of impactful events and programs.
• Flexibility, entrepreneurship, and strong communications and collaboration skills.     
• Demonstrated project management experience, preferably in a professional setting.
• Strong facilitation and partnership skills and the ability to foster relationships and partnerships with internal colleagues and ULI members.
• Self-motivated, demonstrating keen attention to details, timelines, and various moving project pieces, with outstanding organizational skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in groups.    
• Some knowledge of the Lewis Center’s focus areas – decarbonization, health and equity, and urban resilience, and some understanding of real estate development and investment – is a plus.
• Ability to travel about once every other month, with trips lasting two to four days.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and experience with web design/WordPress and GarageBand a plus.

EDUCATION: 
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in urban planning, real estate, public health, public policy, public administration, and/or a related field in the social sciences, or equivalent experience a plus but not required.
