Job Description

Urban Farmer is seeking a Bakery Manager in Manteno, IL, to oversee bakery operations, ensuring quality and efficiency in production. Responsibilities include managing daily operations, inventory control, quality assurance, safety compliance, budget management, and staff supervision. The ideal candidate should have a relevant degree and extensive experience in bakery production and management. This role requires significant on-site presence, spending 70% of time on the production floor.
Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Bakery Manager to oversee our bakery operations at Urban Farmer. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in bakery production, managing a team, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency in food manufacturing. This role includes overseeing production, personnel management, safety, inventory, quality, scheduling, and budget management.

Key Responsibilities:
• Production Management: Oversee daily bakery production operations, ensuring the timely and efficient production of baked goods. Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and production schedules. Must spend 70% of their time on the production floor.
• Inventory Control: Manage inventory levels of raw materials, packaging, and finished products. Conduct regular inventory audits and coordinate with procurement to ensure timely replenishment and minimize waste.
• Quality Control: Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure that all products meet company and regulatory standards. Conduct regular product inspections and address any quality issues promptly.
• Safety and Compliance: Develop and enforce safety protocols to comply with OSHA regulations and company policies. Ensure the bakery environment is maintained in a clean and safe condition. Conduct regular safety training and audits.
• Budget Management: Develop and manage the bakery budget, including labor, materials, and overhead costs. Monitor expenses and implement cost-control measures to meet financial targets.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements. Implement best practices and new technologies to optimize bakery operations and reduce production costs.
• CMMS and ERP Systems: Utilize CMMS and ERP systems to track production metrics, manage maintenance schedules, and monitor inventory levels. Ensure accurate data entry and report generation for decision-making.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with FDA and USDA regulations for food safety and production. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of food safety standards and industry regulations.
• Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise bakery staff. Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and address personnel issues as they arise. Foster a positive and productive work environment.
• Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis for any production or quality issues. Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to resolve problems and prevent recurrence.
• Product Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and test new bakery products. Provide input on product design, ingredient selection, and production techniques.
• Customer Interaction: Engage with customers to understand their needs and preferences. Address customer feedback and ensure that bakery products meet or exceed customer expectations.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Bakery or Food Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in bakery or food production, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Strong knowledge of bakery operations and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with safety regulations and implementing safety protocols.
• Knowledge of CMMS, ERP, and other production tracking systems.
• Understanding of budgeting and cost control.
• Excellent personnel management skills and ability to lead and train a team.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with experience in root cause analysis.
• Experience with FDA and USDA regulations for food production.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.

Physical Demands
• Frequent Movement: Regularly required to move around the facility to inspect equipment, supervise activities, and monitor the work environment. This includes walking, standing, and occasionally climbing ladders or stairs.
• Manual Dexterity: Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, operate, or feel tools and equipment. This may include tasks such as turning screws, operating machinery, and manipulating small components.
• Lifting and Carrying: Occasionally required to lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, including tools, equipment parts, and materials necessary for maintenance tasks.
• Safety Awareness: Constant vigilance to maintain personal safety and the safety of the team. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position works in an office and a manufacturing environment with variable temperature and loud noises from machinery and equipment alarms. The incumbent will be exposed to loud noises and alarms from equipment and machinery.
