Brunel University London seeks a Principal Technical Manager for Environmental Sciences to lead the operation and innovation of laboratories on the Uxbridge Campus. The role involves managing a skilled technical team, ensuring compliance and efficiency, and driving continuous improvement. Candidates should have significant experience in Environmental Sciences and leadership skills. The Technical Services Team are looking for someone to lead the future of Environmental Sciences technical provision at Brunel. We’re seeking a Principal Technical Manager to lead the operation, development and innovation of our Environmental Sciences laboratories and facilities. Spanning pollution research laboratories, tissue culture, environmental monitoring and analytical chemistry, this is a complex, cross-disciplinary technical environment supporting world-class teaching and research reflecting Brunel’s identity as a technically focused, applied university.

What you’ll lead
• A skilled technical team delivering high-quality support to staff, students and researchers.
• The safe, compliant and efficient operation of a diverse portfolio of laboratories, equipment and specialist facilities.
• The ongoing development of technical capability, driving continuous improvement across systems, processes and services.

What you’ll bring
• Significant technical experience, gained over a number of years, in Environmental Sciences or a closely related field, alongside demonstrable leadership of teams and operations.
• Confidence managing complex, regulated environments, with the authority and judgement to lead independently and make informed decisions.
• A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to influence stakeholders, drive innovation and maintain high standards across a broad technical landscape.

£45,390 to £58,263 per annum inclusive of London weighting with potential to progress to £65,236 per annum, inclusive of London weighting, through sustained exceptional contribution (pro-rata if part-time).
