About the position
The Principal Policy Analyst will play a crucial role in shaping the energy efficiency regulatory strategy for National Grid's New York Customer Energy Management department. This position requires collaboration with both internal and external teams, including the New York State Department of Public Service, to ensure that the company's energy efficiency, electric demand response, and gas demand response programs align with industry best practices. The analyst will lead efforts to enhance and leverage knowledge and resources in support of New York State's Clean Energy transition, a significant initiative that National Grid is committed to advancing. In this collaborative role, the Principal Policy Analyst will be responsible for managing special projects, providing support in reporting, compliance, planning, and regulatory analysis. The goal is to align internal, regulatory, and stakeholder priorities while focusing on customer needs and expectations for energy efficiency and clean energy solutions. The position is situated within the Customer organization, specifically in Customer Energy Management NY, which is tasked with developing energy efficiency plans for regulatory filing. The analyst will focus on energy policy analysis, development, and advocacy, requiring expertise in cross-functional collaboration to meet aggressive timelines. Key responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of energy efficiency policy strategies across National Grid's operating companies in New York, analyzing climate-related findings, and supporting the CEM Policy Team in various functions. The analyst will track and summarize relevant regulatory filings, communicate policy developments to various teams, and advocate for energy efficiency solutions that meet customer expectations. Additionally, the role involves understanding and representing New York's climate and energy policies, presenting findings to stakeholders, and optimizing product and service development to meet regulatory requirements and improve financial outcomes for the company.
Responsibilities
• Lead in the development and implementation of the energy efficiency policy strategy for all three operating companies in New York.

• Analyze and distil climate-related findings to inform internal or external stakeholders.
,
• Support CEM Policy Team by contributing to reporting, compliance, planning, and regulatory analysis functions.
,
• Track, communicate, and summarize relevant regulatory filings and orders in the NY Public Service Commission dockets.
,
• Develop an understanding of customer needs and priorities, applying critical thinking to advocate for energy efficiency policy solutions.
,
• Understand New York's climate and energy policies and support the Company's 80x50 goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
,
• Present findings confidently to internal and external stakeholders, developing trust-based relationships.

• Lead the optimization of product and service development to support regulatory requirements and achieve success for National Grid.

• Prepare a variety of energy efficiency related regulatory strategy papers, reports, and summary documents.
Requirements
• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline coupled with 10+ years of related experience in energy policy, regulatory affairs, or rate case development.

• Comprehensive understanding of the electric and gas regulated industry and local/national energy policy.
,
• Experience interfacing with State and/or Federal agencies.
,
• Demonstrated capability to lead in energy efficiency policy in relevant energy sectors.
,
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
,
• Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
,
• Ability to identify patterns or trends in energy efficiency and climate change data.
,
• Strong analytical skills to establish facts and challenge initial responses from diverse sources.

• Experience tracking, analyzing, and reporting on the impact of clean energy policies and regulations on climate and energy goals.

• Experience leading large stakeholder workgroups and achieving actionable outcomes.
