Job Description
NV Energy is seeking a Pre-Apprentice Groundman in Carson City, NV. The role involves assisting linemen and line crews, handling tools and equipment, and working on power line construction and maintenance. Candidates must complete specific ACT Work Keys exams and possess a valid CDL to progress to the Apprentice Lineman role. The job requires working at heights and in various weather conditions, following safety protocols.
Requirements

• (7700) Pre-Apprentice Groundman
An employee who is engaged in performing work as an assistant to or under the general direction of a Lineman while training for the pre-apprenticeship program. The incumbent will assist apprentices, line crews or Foreman by working on the ground and handling tools and heavy equipment/materials. This position may be required to perform work in connection with the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground power lines. Incumbents will be required to understand and demonstrate basic rigging which includes the use of hand lines, ropes, knots, etc. The incumbent must also be able to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit, be familiar with induced voltage, and identify hazards associated with line restoration. The incumbent must be able to perform bucket rescue, hurt-man rescue, and vault rescue. The incumbent must be capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces during all weather conditions and at any times of the day. Incumbents will be required to operate tools safely and in accordance with Company safety rules. This position is intended to be filled for only up to two (2) apprentice class rotations before the incumbent shall be required to progress to the Apprentice Lineman job classification. Must successfully complete a five (5) week climbing training. Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to progress into Apprentice Lineman (7631).
In order to be considered for this opening, you must have successfully completed the ACT Work Keys exams as required by the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC-1245). For the apprenticeship positions, you will be required to have Work Keys scores as indicated below before the position closes. Failure to obtain the required scores or provide satisfactory evidence of your Work Keys scores will result in your bid not being considered.

• Graphic Literacy (formally named Locating Information) – 4
• Workplace Documents (formally named Reading for Information) – 5
• Workplace Observation – 2
In Nevada, the ACT Work Keys Test Battery is administered at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Meadowood Center in Reno at 5270 Neil Road, Suite 319 and at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) in Las Vegas at 2409 Las Verdes Street To schedule the Work Keys exams, you must then contact TMCC directly at (775) 824-3838 or CSN at (702) 651-4480.

• Additional Requirements

This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) under Title 49 CFR Part 382 and Part 40. Any applicant/employee who is licensed and would operate a commercial vehicle for the Company will be subject to drug and alcohol testing under the Company's FMCSA drug and alcohol testing programs. Any employment, transfer, or promotion offer made for this position is contingent upon taking and passing a drug test prior to the commencement of the new role. If an applicant/employee fails the drug test, any offer of employment, transfer, or promotion will be revoked.

$35.93 per hour. Potential Safety Bonus 2%. The company reserves the right to determine the number of positions awarded for this requisition.
