Direct Energy is hiring a Power Trading Analyst in Calgary, AB. The role involves creating and maintaining web scrapes for market data, developing reports, performing market analysis, and coordinating with various teams for pricing and operational improvements. Candidates should have proficiency in SQL and programming languages, strong analytical skills, and knowledge of electricity markets. The position requires working in an open office environment with potential overtime.
Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Web Developer to join our team at Direct Energy. In this role, you will be responsible for creating new scripts for web scrapes to capture market information, developing and maintaining web scrapes, data tables, and models, as well as various reports.

Main Responsibilities:
• Create new scripts for web scrapes to capture market information
• Develop, maintain and update web scrapes, data tables, and models
• Develop, maintain, and update various reports as needed by the trading team
• Perform market fundamental analysis as requested
• Work with the pricing team to develop and maintain retail pricing models
• Evaluate power deals assigned and ensure accurate and timely pricing according to established Sales priorities
• Coordinate operational improvements, including working with IT, Legal, and Billing teams
• Trade entry of power deals

Working Conditions:
• Open office environment
• Overtime may be required as business needs dictate

Requirements:
• Proficient coder of SQL, and an object-oriented programming language (R, VBA, Python, Ruby, etc.)
• Quantitative Degree, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields from an accredited college or university
• Strong analytical skills with strong IT and/or data management skills
• Statistical proficiency

Addtional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, SQL and another programming language
• Multitasking ability in pressure situations while meeting tight deadlines
• Strong communication skills, able to develop good working relationships with people
• Team player with ability to take initiative and work independently
• Knowledge of Alberta and Ontario electricity markets
• Knowledge of retail energy products and pricing
