Job Description

The London School of Economics is seeking a Policy Analyst for UK Democracy to conduct policy-oriented research related to climate policy. The role requires a postgraduate degree or equivalent experience, strong communication skills, and knowledge of UK politics. The position offers a salary between £42,679 and £51,000, with potential progression, and is a fixed-term appointment until December 2025. Hybrid working is available.

Policy Analyst (UK Democracy)

Salary from £42,679 to £51,000 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £54,730 pa inclusive of London allowance.

This is a fixed term appointment until 31 December 2025.

The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics is pleased to invite applications to the above post.

The Grantham Research Institute has an active policy analysis team that complements its highly regarded academic research programmes. We are looking for a Policy Analyst to conduct policy-oriented analysis and research related to climate policy and UK democracy. The successful candidate will work closely with the other members of the policy analysis team and the Policy and Communications Director and will play an active intellectual role in the life of the Institute.

Candidates should have a Postgraduate degree or equivalent experience in economics, environmental/development economics, environmental policy, or a related field by the post start date. They will have experience of engaging and building working relationships with UK Parliamentarians and other elected representatives and be able to produce high-quality research and research analysis for a variety of audiences in a timely manner, including ability to analyse and research complex ideas and apply appropriate methodologies. They should have experience of writing for decision makers in the public, private or third sector about climate change issues and have detailed knowledge of UK politics, particularly relating to climate issues. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas and technical issues to a range of different non-technical audiences. They should have the ability to work independently and as part of a team and be able to self-learn and keep pace with developments in a complex, dynamic and fast-moving area.
